The Darelan Empire

Empire of the Star Fronts, Darelan Imperium.

Message to the Omnet:

I apologize for the frequency of updates since I took over this position from Vestis Gern, however, I must point out that much of the data Vestis Gern collected and placed into his reports are regretfully inaccurate. I wish I could say that this was the fault of the natives, but in truth, it was predominantly Vestis Gern's fault. He did not complete proper research into the Q-Dex, and barely touched the intricate surface of Darelan social and military culture.

Vestis Gern also antagonized the late Imperator Varys, grandfather of the current Imperator, Giolantti so much that all later dealings with the Omnet were strained. I have been working constantly to rectify that problem and have set up amicable relations with His Holiness, Imperator Giolantti first of his name.

I beg forgiveness if this affects much of the data already posted, but I have finally had the opportunity to view first hand the Imperium culture and to converse first hand with noted Imperium historian, politicians, and Imperial Family members. Humbly, Vestis Eduard-Fernath

Overview:

The Darelan Imperium is an expansionist empire in Sector Z. They are a proud, ancient civilization that has existed since the Shattering of the Suns. They were among the Chosen: groups who somehow were given orders to flee the Shattering of the Suns that followed the loss of the three: the Mantle of Kendis-dai, the Starshield, and the Nightsword.

They are on the whole a proud, highly civilized race. They have a tradition of being warriors, scientists and artists of superb skill. Their architecture is considered by many to be the height of grace and beauty. They are human, although they have changed to adapt to their natural environment by increasing their visual range (infra-red sensing) and have greatly increased strength, speed, agility, and resistance to poisons. They are as close to genetically perfect as possible, and this grants them -- with the aid of bio-regenerative therapy and stasis controls -- a lifespan of approximately 200-600 years.

In their possession is a mystical artifact of the Messengers of Light, called the Starshard. It is uncertain as to what this artifact does, but it has shown incredible knowledge of events happening far away in other quantum zones. It does not often speak to anyone, and when it does, it only does so for the Imperator Giolantti.

The Imperium is set on the boundaries of two quantum zones; with the Imperium proper and the Ghanimin Province in one, and the Jen'shadar Province in another. This leads to the diversity of life and culture within the Imperium. Imperium influence has all but destroyed the small differences in the Ghanimin Province, but has left the Jen'shadar virtually untouched due mostly to its strikingly different culture and recent (30 GTS spins ago) entry.

Q-dex:

The recent expansions of the Imperium has brought part of the Jen'shadar Quantum Zone under their control; bringing the total number of quantum zones controlled by the Imperium to two.

Darelan Quantum Zone :

T 510.4434/769.697 W M 556.5665/752.11

This area is a Astrological (Programmed Energy Linear) zone, with an average handling ratio, low advancement ratio and a high quantity measure on the tech side. Technological advancement is easy, due to the average handling ratio and low advancement ratio, which means simpler links exist between the possibilities. Tech storms are mild, infrequent, and moderately small.

The area is also a Vibrant (Programmed Essence Linear) zone, with an average handling ratio, an average advancement ratio and an above average quantity measure. Mystic storms are average in strength, very frequent, above average in duration and average in size. The life forms guide indicates that all life forms in this area are human, and only human.

Jen'shadar Quantum Zone:

T 675.5853/1289.697 W M 710.5341/578.22

The Jen'shadar Quantum Zone is a Biological (Energy Nodal) zone, with a slightly above average handling ratio, high (low under the old system) advancement ratio, and average stores of matter and life. Tech storms are average in strength, violent, average in duration, and below average in size. Outsiders are treated with kindness, if not fawning subservience, the political climate is stable, and an orderly transition of government is gradually happening. Relations with the Omnet are cordial.

This is also a Ley Line (Essence Bipolar) zone, with a moderately high handling ratio, low (high under the old system) advancement ratio, and abundant power in the form of essence. Mystic storms are average in strength, below average in frequency, below average in duration and very small. The life forms guide shows that there are two life forms of sentient note. The Sidhe (natives) and the Dragons.

Technology:

Darelan:

The Darelan Imperium is extremely advanced technologically. The average citizen of the Imperium possesses biolinks linking them to the central information system of the Imperium; run by the Communicant's Guild in conjunction with the Omnet. This is just being installed in the Jen'shadar First Province. The major advancements of Darelan science are in genetic engineering, especially crystalline lifeform engineering and crystalline technology, energy manipulation and replication. On the average, a citizen of the Imperium has access to significant technology as part of his/her daily work. The Imperium encourages research and innovation within its borders, always seeking to increase its understanding both of new advances as well as the knowledge of the Lost Imperium.

Drive technology is a system that translates the ship and all within it into an energy stream of astrological force, which then rushes towards its destination at near instantaneous speeds. The other option is astrological sails; huge sails of fine crystalline material that catch the ambient astrological forces and harness it much like wind.

Jen'shadar:

The Jen'shadar have less technology than the Darelans due to the size and unreliability of technology in their quantum zone. Selective breeding of various life forms to form technology is the norm, although it is possible to power huge systems with the life force of multiple energy beings, or creatures that are bred to produce power. A majority of devices are bred and require food, water, care and in some cases, love. The benefit is the lack of need for a power source since the device produces its own power.

The predominant drive is a tunnel drive that tunnels between space to arrive at its destination. It is however, much more limited than the magical drives.

Magic:

Darelan:

The Darelan Imperium exists within a Vibrant Q-dex, with the normal use of vibrations to generate magic. The Imperium however, has had limited use of magic, due to the greater ease of using technology. Almost all power is centered in the hands of the Imperial Sar-Atarch, the Communicant's Guild, and the Preservers. The use of voice is not prevalent, with most using frequencies of thought to generate their power. The magical knowledge of the Imperium is rather a little below the Galactic Average (GA), but recent reports indicate an eagerness to develop magically. This, added to the lack of real need for vocals, has led to its previous designation as a psionic zone.

Magic is generated by frequencies of thought rather than song, although songs can also be used.

Jen'shadar:

The Jen'shadar Province, previously known as the Jen'shadar Dynasty, is located within a Ley Line zone. Magic is powered by ley lines, which combine to form nodes, and arch-nodes. In increasing order of power, 2-6 Ley-lines form a node, 7 and above form an arch-node.

The Jen'shadar have developed extremely good mystical capabilities, breeding life forms to harness the ambient magical power. Certain life forms it was discovered actually fed on ley lines and nodes. With some skill, it was possible for a mage to harness them as a familiar, using them to store nodal energy where he could access it, even without being close to a true node. This has led to the breeding of dozens of different variations of the gwenne, as they are called.

Size:

The Darelan Imperium now spans 6 systems under direct dominion. Another 5 are under its sway, and 4 more are part of the Jen'shadar Province. The former worlds of the Pax Alliance have been ceded back to the Alliance following a series of closed negotiations.

Population:

13,000,000,000 (13 billion) are under the direct rule of the Imperium.

60,000,000,000 (60 billion) are under the sway of the Imperium as part of either the Ghanimin Province or the Jen'shadar Province.

2,000,000,000 (2 billion) are gene-workers, the genetically bred humanoids used as workers within the Imperium.

4,000,000,000 (4 billion) are gene-soldiers of the Nakkar, G'lan and Sword Legions.

Climate and Geography:

The Imperium is home to a myriad different worlds, both within the boundaries of the Imperium proper and the First Provinces. Among the more important worlds in the Darelan Quantum Zone are:

Darel IV:

Darel IV is a standard, medium sized habitable planet and the center of Darelan pre-space flight civilization. It was there that the ancient Survivors fled to when the Shattering of the Suns happened, and it was there that the Darelan civilization flourished. The whole world is a carefully sculpted beauty, all of it painstakingly terraformed, with the exception of several areas, which have been left in their natural beauty. Much of Darel IV is land, with about 60% water coverage. The land is generally flat, with low mountains except surrounding the Jel'Sharine continent and the Seas of Endless Light.

  • The Falls of Tears:
  • The Falls of Tears are a huge and beautiful sight. The waters of the Falls plummet several thousand meters down a sheer cliff overlooking the Sea of Endless Light. The natural minerals in the water collect energy as it falls down the cliff, shimmering in a cascade of many colored light.
  • The Jeweled Desert:
  • The Jeweled Desert is perhaps the most unusual of the Imperium's many sights. The Jeweled Desert is a huge desert that filled a depression in the continent of Jel'Sharine. It is filled with a multicolored sand that glitters like jewels in the blue-white light of Darel's sun, Venya.

Vendikai II:

The planet of Vendikai II is a strange, oddly abundant planet. Most famous of its historical sights is the Imperial Winter Palace, located at the joining between the Choran Sea and the Kerine Heights. The Imperial Winter Palace was built starting at the shallow Choran Sea, and rising up with the mountains to the top of the Kerine Heights. Even to this day, the Winter Palace remains a fond sight to many Darelans, and an architectural marvel. Built without anti-gravity generators, this structure has stood the test of time. It is mountainous, with huge mountains and sharp cliffs covered with tropical forests.

Ghanimin II:

The Ghanimin Provincial Capital and home of the ancient Ghanimin Federation, Ghanimin II is still interdicted to foreigners. This world is according to Darelan reports a world covered with ruins, which are still intact and have never been destroyed by the Ghanimin, who built their homes upon floating islands in the seas. 85% of Ghanimin II is covered by water, with the rest rocky land.

Jendrialle:

Jendrialle is the homeworld of the Jen'shadar Dynasty. Orbiting the yellow star Balendra, it is a verdant green paradise. It is temperate, with huge forests teeming with multitudes of life. The sheer variety of life within its atmosphere is stunning. Nearly 76% of Jendrialle is covered with water, and the rest of it is generally flat lands with a few mountain ranges.

Flora and Fauna:

Darelan Quantum Zone:

The flora and fauna of the Darelan Quantum Zone is shifted towards crystalline life and verdant, lush grasses and trees. The most prized plant is the Kendis flower, a large, delicate flower that blooms only once in a year, and produces a flower of startling beauty. The fractal patterns created within the flower petals are said to be therapeutic, and very soothing.

The Kendis flower is found all over the Quantum zone, either growing natively or brought by Darelan or Ghanimin settlers.

The main predatory animal is the Rak'shatara of the southern latitudes. The rak'shatara is perhaps the deadliest living thing in the Darelan homeworld. It creates a toxin that even now Darelans are not immune to, and generates a field of vision blurring, drawing light away from its path, and cloaking itself. The huge beast (9 meters tall and weighing 300 kg) is capable of crushing a human in its poison coated claws and eating it within three minutes. Most rak'shataras have been killed with the exception of several Imperial preserves where they can still be found and studied.

The talons are perhaps the most enigmatic race in the Imperium. Huge spacefaring beings of incredible size and power, they appeared in the Darelan quantum zone shortly after the Wars of Succession. The Imperium uses them as Talon class superdreadnoughts, having formed a psychic link to the huge creatures.

Jen'shadar Quantum Zone:

The sheer life within this zone renders it difficult to describe, but here I present several of the more unique life forms.

Gwenne: The gwenne are the most unique species in existence on the Jen'shadar, though also the most commonly seen. All Jen'shadar wizards worth his or her salt can be seen with one, usually perched on a shoulder or padding along beside him/her. The gwenne are generally small (about the size of a house cat), but are unique in their abilities to store power from ley lines and nodes. Only arch-nodes (generally found in space) require artificial or larger animals to store essence. The appear to be a miniature dragon, but with lighter, almost iridescent hues to their skin.

Dragons: The dragons of Jen'shadar are intelligent, cultured and sophisticated sentients. They manipulate magic expertly, but rarely do so. In fact, their primary hobbies are eating and sleeping. It is rare to see a dragon awake for longer than it takes to hunt his food, but sometimes wizards use them as companions or guardians, usually paying for service with food or essence.

History:

Ages:

Age of Night

The Darelan Imperium was founded during this time by Ettiene Dai, who claimed descendency from Kendis-dai and Shauna-kir. He was a baby when the Shattering of Suns happened, but rapidly grew up on Darel IV, where he was visited by the Messengers of Light. It was there that he was granted a vision of hope for the Imperium which led him to founding the dream upon which Darelan believe would forever lie. Ettiene Dai is mentioned many times in many records, but nothing much is spoken of the man himself. His deeds are recorded by the legion, but no biography or pertinent details on his life can be found.

In 1340 BC, the Darelans were limited by their lack of knowledge of the world they were now stranded in, but within ten years had discovered the rudimentary frequencies and simple tools needed to survive. This can be attributed to Ettiene Dai, lending credence to his claim of God Emperorship. His seminal works, still read like a bible by the Darelans are the "Imperium, Self, and the Path" and the "Shining Path, A Treatise".

The Age of Night ended in 740 BC, ushering in the Age of Rebirth and the first outer system colonization.

Age of Rebirth

The Age of Rebirth was an age of great changes within the Imperium. The Imperium expanded with a rapid, some say, rabid speed. New worlds were colonized as the Imperium fulfilled the dream of returning triumphant to the stars.

The Imperium was also embroiled in the Hundred Year War, a war between the newly discovered Ghanimin Federation and the Darelan Imperium. Stretching over a period of a hundred years, the Darelans fought the Ghanimin in on/off skirmishes, with huge periods of relative peace before another series of border skirmishes would occur.

This was ended with the birth of Alessandra Pryde, First Lady of the Ghanimin. With her skill, she was able to convince the Darelan Imperator, Daeran Ennervai-edis Dai, to sign and peace agreement. She later married him, sparking off huge internal problems including an attempted palace revolt. The Ghanimin were loyal, however, and soon peace was restored to the Imperium, leaving them free to expand and take the then insular Pax Alliance. Both the Ghanimin and the Pax Alliance heads later signed the Covenant of the First Stars, marking the beginning of the First States institution within the Imperium.

Age of Wars

This age began in 879 AD, and brought civil disturbances between nearly 70 First States of the Imperium and the Imperium Central. For the first time, the First States rebelled, trying to fight off the hungry Trelanne military machine. The First States were stripped of almost every able bodied man and woman, sent to aid in the continued expansion of the Imperium. At this time, the Imperators sitting upon the Imperial Throne were weak, and ineffective, leaving much of their power in the hands of the Five Great Houses.

In 978 AD, Meracles Dai seized power following the death of her father, Imperator Vendril. Imperator Meracles took the offensive, wrestling power back from the House of Trelanne, and granting more power to the Imperial First States. The Trelanne were all but obliterated, with only the weight of tradition keeping them from utter annihilation.

Meracles Dai promptly began rearranging and tightening ties between the First States and the Darelan Imperium. She continued this program until her death in 1020 AD while touring the Domains of Relantria.

Her two sons, Lorien and Hadarn, fell to infighting over Imperial policy. Hadarn emerged victorious, taking over the Imperium and crowning himself Imperator. The Imperium did not expand much, though, due to obvious reasons.

In 1033 AD, the Quashida invaded as the Imperium was still recovering from its several civil wars over the span of the Age of Wars. The Imperium, totally unprepared for the ferocity of the initial attacks, fell back, scorching many of their worlds rather than allow the Quashida to gain control of them. The Imperium's dominion and sway fell from 400 dominion systems to just 50, and their sway over nearly 600 systems was reduced to perhaps a hundred.

The Imperium rallied, however under Valandriel Novus Trelanne, and fought off the Quashida, buying time for a unified fleet of the entire First States and the Imperium (nearly 40,000 ships of dreadnought class in all) to rally and counter strike. The Quashida were rendered helpless before the varied and unique forces of all the Imperium, and were utterly crushed in a genocidal war that ended in 1040 AD. In many ways, this was ironic justice, for the Quashida had exterminated countless other species before meeting their match.

Age of Expansion

In 1498 AD, the Darelan Imperium regained its outward impetus, and began a new series of expansions into the rim of Sector Z. This was balanced by a series of important internal events, which unfortunately remain sealed by order of the Imperial Family.

The Imperium continued this slow expansion, but there were cracks appearing in the seams of the Imperium. The First States fell back into private squabbles over small matters, and a pair of weak Imperators granted even more power to the I'endikai. This was to result in a series of atrocities and greedy grasping that bled the First States almost dry of wealth, manpower, and tolerance for the Imperium.

Tensions hit a high when the young twin sons of Darel Dai came of age. One, Varys Dai, was a cool, calm and skilled leader. He was, however, not popular with the Great Houses for his more liberal views, and his insistence that the governorship be awarded more fairly, with a reduction in the total power of the I'endikai

The other, Ettienne, nominally older by a few minutes, was more popular but infinitely more weak as a leader. He was not appointed Imperial Heir, but upon the death of his father, he attempted with the help of the House of O-Belah to seize power.

The House of Trelanne, eager to regain favor with the Imperators, took Varys side. This began the War of Succession. The First States, seeing weakness in the Imperium, broke free of the Imperium's rule. All but a few were able to successfully break free. The Ghanimin Federation remained a part of the Imperium, but held itself separate from the conflict. The Domains of Relantria and the Jen'shadar Dynasty remain within the Imperium for nearly 50 years before finally breaking free.

Another hundred years of war took its toll on the Imperium. Nearly all its settlements outside of Vendikai, Serin, Selin, and Darel were abandoned, left to fend for themselves as the Grand Fleet returned and choose sides between the two warring leaders, both of which referred to themselves as Imperator.

In 1721 AD, Ettienne Dai gambled everything on an all out attack to defeat his brother, Varys. However, the House of O-Belah, seeing imminent defeat, turned and gave information to Varys, allowing Varys to launch a preemptive strike that ended the War of Succession and Ettienne's life, leaving Varys uncontested Imperator of the Imperium. But it was a greatly weakened Imperium that Varys inherited. Wracked by civil war, the Imperium spanned only 5 systems under its dominion, and another 5 in the Ghanimin First State.

Varys began an intricate program of modernization, aided by the sudden appearance of the Talons in Darelan space. Hailed as a sign from Kendis-dai, the Talons were amenable to conversion into ships of war, and were a massive improvement in Darelan ship design.

The status quo was maintained for nearly five centuries before the founding of the League of Stars under Imperator Giolantti Ennervai-edis Dai. The fellow signatories, the Kha-Lu Imperium, the Yinkha, the Domains of Relantria, and the Gu'an'ki Regime have aided and benefited from the Imperium's skills. Negotiations were also begun between the Ducal Lords of the Jen'shadar Dynasty and the Darelan Imperium.

2129 AD: The official merging of the Jen'shadar Dynasty and the Darelan Imperium begins. The Darelan Imperator signs the Accord of Torquinus with the Ducal Lords of the Dynasty.

Government:

Darelan:

The old Imperial government is undergoing changes as I write this, but I have received these details from the Imperator's Secretary. Here I include it for better understanding of the changes going on within the Imperium.

The Imperium is split into two bodies. The first is the Imperium proper, and is directly ruled by the Imperator and his governors, or I'endi. The second is the Provinces, which are sway entities nominally controlled by the Imperium via the local government. Foreign policy, basic overall policy and taxation are set by the Imperium, but individual Provinces are responsible for their own justice, police and internal matters.

Provinces of the Imperium:

  • Ghanimin Province
  • Jen'shadar Province

The Imperium is ruled by the Imperator, who is the ultimate arbiter of all disputes and the ultimate legislature. However, the actual government and domestic legislature is determined by the Imperial Council and the Provinces. The Imperial Council consists of 45 elected representatives chosen from all over the Imperium proper.

Beside the council is the First Advocacy, which consists of all the members of the Imperial executive branch (Atarch) and the Military branch (Plutarch). In addition, the Provincial representatives serve on the First Advocacy too.

Each Province is ruled individually, with an advisor roughly equivalent in ranking to an I'endikai holding position with the local ruling body to ensure that Imperium interests are seen to. However, the Provinces are very much autonomous, and hold fiercely to that autonomy.

Jen'shadar Government:

The Jen'shadar internal government is that of the Ducal Lords. Each Ducal Lord has a Ducal Major (a total of 4 of the most powerful Ducal Lords), and Ducal Minor (all the lesser Ducal Lords). The Four Ducal Major form the Dynasty, and sit upon the White Council in Torquinus.

Below them are the individual city administrators (Adepts) and the law enforcement (Masters).

World Government:

The World Government is a selected governor chosen by the Imperial Council and ratified by the Imperator. He is aided by a Senate of local elected representatives, and has a small but competent force of the executive branch there to look after native needs.

Military command is entirely separate from the Governor, and is generally under an officer of at least Bashar rank.

Foreign Policy:

The foreign policy of the Imperium has changed significantly under the outward looking eyes of Imperator Giolantti. He has driven the Imperium to found the League of Stars along with fellow members the Kha-Lu, the Domains of Relantria, the Gu'an'ki Regime, and the Yinkha.

The Imperium's foreign policy is one of cautious opening to outsiders, as shown by its recent treaties with the Domains of Relantria, and the Valdori Empire. The Imperium respects foreign powers of equal technological/mystical development, and size, and will do much to improve ties with such equals. The Imperium is also conducting joint research with several empires to improve technology and travel between various empires.

The Imperium's dealings with the Omnet have been improving steadily. The Imperium is friendlier to Omnet personnel, and secrecy laws and sealed documents are finally becoming more available to Omnet personnel.

Domestic Policy:

The Imperium's domestic policy can be split into two parts:

The policy for the Imperium proper, that of leniency tempered with hard, stern justice. The Imperium does not interfere with its citizen's lives, sheltering them under the protection of the Imperial power. It holds to a principle of 'my rights are extended as long as they do not conflict with the Imperium', and the principle of 'Imperium first, self second.'

Justice in all parts of the Imperium is served by the Arbiters. Mind-readers of extreme skill, three Arbiters serve on each trial. Each Arbiter has the right to summon witnesses and scan their minds for the purpose of the hearing, and then renders a vote, guilty, or not guilty. Justice is served swiftly following that. There are almost no prisons in the Imperium, except for holding areas for foreigners. Imperium citizens are executed for severe crimes, and minor crimes generally involve confiscation of property, or reduction in status.

The policy of the Jen'shadar is equally lenient, with one exception. Wizards are expected to hold to a higher standard of behavior, courtesy, humility and honor. All non-wizards are considered second class citizens, but are treasured for the variety they bring. The Nulls especially are treasured as servants, skilled craftsmen, and scientists.

Society:

The society of the Imperium can be split into five sections: The Imperium's naming for families structure is that of Family name (patrilineal), then House name ( patrilineal) and then Imperium (broad definition for all trueborn Imperial subjects whose father is a citizen of the Imperium)
  • Family
  • House
    1. House Dai
    2. House Darr
    3. House Keralain
    4. House Trelanne
    5. House O-Belah
  • Imperium

The society of the Jen'shadar is patrilineal, and the father is the head of the house. However, women are given the same rights as men. There are clans, but each clan varies in power. More important are the wizardly families, whose lines produce on the whole more adepts and arch-adepts than most.

The Imperium is undergoing social changes too as the Jen'shadar are integrated into the Imperium.

Languages:

Three languages are spoken.

  • Imperial Standard: official language
  • Sun Tongue: religion and the clergy
  • Fire Tongue: military

All Darelans are expected to know all three languages.

The Jen'shadar have two main languages.

  • Dynastic High: the official language
  • Wizard's tongue: the official language of magical tomes and training.

Jen'shadar Nulls are not taught Wizard's tongue.

Religion:

The Darelans hold to a religion of worshipping Kendis-dai and his consort, Shauna-kir. Shauna-kir is revered more, however than Kendis-dai. The Faith, as it is called, has temples throughout the Imperium though most prayer is conducted individually. Several times a day the Imperial citizens are expected to at least murmur prayers to Shauna-kir and Kendis-dai as part of their daily life.

Jen'shadar:

The Jen'shadar are not particularly religious. They believe in an All that encompasses everything, but are too egocentric to worship anything as a god.

Castes:

Darelan:

The Darelan Imperium has no caste based structure. The only thing separating the genetically engineered people from regular Imperial citizens is one of location. Gene-workers serve in the crystal farms, factories and other locations. They do not usually enter the cities. The regular citizens of the Imperium live in the cities, and are generally sheltered from the gene-workers due to their duties.

Jen'shadar:

The Jen'shadar are separated into two classes, the Wizards (separated again into Masters, Adepts, and Arch-Adepts depending on the power they can safely draw on), and the Null (or regular non-magical people). The Wizards rule the Dynasty by virtue of knowledge, long life, and power. The Null are treated with courtesy, and are the workers, farmers, and craftsmen of the Jen'shadar.

Wizards are also classified according to their capabilities. Lowest in power and rank are the Masters, (nearly 20 billion). The Masters are incapable of accessing anything larger than a ley line.

Adepts are powerful wizards, and are the core of the military, mystical research, and middle-upper ruling class. There are about 15 billion Adepts in the Jen'shadar zone. An adept can access the power of a node, or two or more ley lines, granting them incredible power.

Arch-Adepts are the most powerful. They are split into the Ducal Lords (100,000 of varying rank and power) and the Arch-Magisters. The Arch-Adepts are powerful, the only ones capable of truly manipulating and altering the fabric of reality, using the power of over seven ley lines or an arch-node.

The Nulls serve in varying capacity. However, their primary capacity is still as scientists and breeders. Once the mystical changes are done, the scientists take over and make the genetic adaptations, and then transferring the tools to the breeders for mass 'production'.

Economy:

The economy is based on the use of the edis-Dai, a currency based on the value of a crystal called chrystallis. Chrystallis is almost impossible to replicate, and thus ideally suited to be a currency.

The Imperium is a capitalist market, with many opportunities to grow and change. The majority of power, however, is handled by the First Tier families (aristocracy). There are still many, though, who work their way up to the stage of rivaling the First Tier for wealth and prestige.

Children study in the Imperial schooling system for 18 years, learning the basics and advanced knowledge they will need to have. The children study military tactics, languages, sciences, mystics, history, and all the necessary subjects for a citizen of an interstellar civilization.

The Darelan Imperium is self sufficient, creating all of the necessities it needs, and building many high quality crystalline systems and technology for sale to outside systems. The majority of the Imperium is heavily industrialized, and very few agricultural areas are maintained.

Most food is replicated, and the Darelans have immense reserves, sufficient to last the Imperium for decades at the least. In fact, most agriculture is for export, such as the famous Darelan firewine, a delicacy that is prized by many empires. Agriculture of a diffe
