The Zharythian Empire

Overview:

The Zharythian empire is a peaceful trade and exploration empire in sector G. It is over 1,000 years old. The empire works closely with the Omnet and trades information and technology with other empires. There are both humans and dragons in the empire. The people of the empire have made gaining knowledge a large part of their lives. There are also reports of other creatures that are intelligent, but from other dimensions. Some are hostile and some are peaceful, but they are rarely seen.

The people vary greatly from planet to planet. Some are very logical and others can be more emotional. Some can be very friendly while others are more cautious. But they all follow a common law that is made by both the people and the government.

The Zharythian empire usually accepts other beings in the galaxy. Those other sentients are expected to follow the laws of the empire.

This energy bi-polar zone has a high handling ratio. The advancement ratio and quantity measure are slightly lower, though still high. Tech storms are below average severity and frequency, very short, and above average in size. Other sentients are accepted and generally welcome. The government is stable with no change seen for the near future. The government works closely with the Omnet and is usually very cooperative with them, or at least as cooperative as the Omnet is with them.

The mystic side of this area of space is life bi-polar with an average handling ratio, above average advancement ratio, and has an average quantity measure. The mystic storms are very calm, very rare, very short, and below average in size. The life forms guide show two different main life forms which are humans and dragons.

Technology:

The technology of the empire uses the energy that flows in the zone. This is usually done with crystals that collect the energy and run machines and ships. The energy flow is also gethered into energy storage containers, usually crytal, of different sizes. This energy is used in machines that run off the the opposing or attracting forces of the energy. The empire also uses two types of solar energy. When light goes through crystals, some energy can be taken out of the crystal and sent down wires. Solar concentrators are also used for recycling metals, cleaning water, destroying toxic wastes, and producing energy. There are a few small kingdoms that still use flamable materials to run their machines.

The scientists have found ways to transform light into matter, something that only the most powerful of wizards could do before. They are also finding ways to turn energy flow directly into matter. The matter created is rarely pure, and these machines are not used for the production of food yet.

Energy can also be used to warp space for FTL travel or form wormhole gates. A newer type of ship drive uses energy to change matter into energy. The ship moves along space at this new energy level at the speed of light. This allows for quicker travel through wormholes. It also allows the ship to move through solid objects and it is invisible. Cloaking devices can also be used to bend light around a normal ship.

Magic:

It is thought that this area of space used to be filled with magic. Over time the zone has changed to a more technological zone. There is still much magic use. The wizards have become fewer, but the people still use magical items charged by wizards. Magic is used in travel, battle, security, learning, and other things. The magic comes from the energy of the wizard and the surrounding mana energy. There are also some people with mental powers, though they are few.

There is also a form of faith magic used by the religious people. The religions believe that this magic comes from their gods that they worship. There are other people that believe that this magic is the same as any other magic, but that their faith in their beliefs is what shapes it. These people think that sometimes priestly spells will fail if the priests faith fails not because the deity kept the power from them, but because the person knew in their own mind that their faith had faltered and so they couldn't properly cast the spell. The true reasons for this type of spell casting are unknown.

There are two other worlds thought by some to be lost and are spoken of mostly in myths and legends. One is a dark world of complete blackness with no matter. Some legends say that the demons in the Zharythian battles came from this planet and went back. The other world is a world of gates. It is a world where there are portals to other dimensions. The gates are random and naturally occuring. There is more information on this world in an explorer's journal found with a person who claims to have been there. This person was found in the wilderness over 1,000 years ago. He claimed to have left at a time more than 2,000 years earliler.

Population:

The count of people last year was 64,428,300,142. This was only the count of Zharythian citizens including the 10,000+ mutants and could be off by as much as +-800,000 people. There are at least 64,000 dragons. They mostly live on their own island continent.

Climate and Geography :

Zharyth system

Toth

The first planet, Toth, is very hot and uninhabitable. The land glows with the heat.

Zharyth

Over %50 of the land of Zharyth is forest. There are three small deserts. One of these deserts has more crystal dust than sand. More than %60 of the planet is ocean. The north and south both have small cold polar regions.

Dramir

The third planet is covered completely with water. This water is filled with salt and crystal dust that sometimes solidifies into islands and other times disolves easily back into the water. The air is also filled with the dust and is unbreathable. There is much energy in the air and there are many lightning storms. The winds and dust cause the light to move in different patterns and colors. There are only two permanent islands on the planet.

Mordrin

The fourth planet is called Mordrin. This is a dark world, and is barely habitable. There are always dark clouds in the sky blocking what little light that comes from the distant sun and the stars. There is no moon. The ground is dark and dry in colors of black, dark brown, and grey. The little light that is on this world comes partly from lava from volocanos or under the ground, from small glowing crystals that are somtimes found on the ground, and from the lightning that is usually in the clouds. The humidity varies around the planet. There is sometimes rain and there are rarely any large storms, though there is usually thunder. The heat on this planet comes form the lava and is trapped under the clouds and the heavy atmosphere. There are some ancient ruins on this world showing that there may have been a civilization on this world. What that civilization was is not known.

This is a forest world. Even the oceans have floating forests. There is a great amount of atmosphere that goes up for many miles with many different layers small clouds. The weather here is usually calm, hot, and humid. There usually rain at least once a day on every part of the planet and sometimes strong winds. The temperature doesn't usually get lower than 80 degrees or higher than 94 degrees. The polar regions can sometimes get down to 50 degrees in the winter. There is only a very small seasonal tilt to the planet.

Valiron

This planet is made entirely of crystal. This crystal moves all the time. Some of it is liquid. Pure crystal can't be gotten from this planet, and it is unsafe to land here. The light from the white sun it is orbiting and the green sun in the system mix in the different gems and crystals of this planet to make many colors.

This planet reflects the sunlight brightly with metals flowing over the surface. There are also heavy toxic gasses. There are volcanic mountains and lakes of molten rock and metal.

Arcantis

Arcantis has many different forests, more than Zharyth. More than 70% of the land on this world in forest. There are many lakes. The climate is similar to the climate of Zharyth. It is slightly warmer, though, and the polar regions are much smaller than the ones on Zharyth. The planet is larger than Zharyth and has a slightly greater gravity.

This planet is a gas giant. The clouds do create rain in some areas, and lightning can also be seen sometimes.

Volsharr

Volsharr is the second all crystal planet of the empire. The crystals are almost all clear. The mountains go up for miles in places. There are oceans, and there is a little rain sometimes. The light from the white sun causes energy to build up in the crystals creating a little heat and some lightning. Near lakes or the oceans, the energy in the crystals can cause the different energy patterns of the elements in the water to separate, breaking the water down into hydrogen and oxygen. The extra heat also evaporates some of the water creating fog. Volsharr is very cold and uninhabitable.

The metals in the soil of this world give it a green color in many places. It's mostly flat with a few mountains and craters. There is some frozen water at the polar ragions. The atmosphere is thin with no breathable air.

Talishar has a climate similar to Zharyth, though slightly cooler. It is also slightly smaller than Zharyth.

Nexor is usually cool. There is a little heat from the dark sun. There is little weather and barely any seasonal change. Most of the trees are black and grey.

This planet is almost completely covered with obsidian. It's thought that this world was very volcanic in the past. The entire surface is very black. There are very few areas with other colors of volcanic glass. There are tall mountains of this glass. There is an unbreathable atmosphere. The planet is very large and has a very high gravity that would crush a normal human.

Caevok is cold. The air is thin. There is very little water. There are only a few lakes. There isn't much rain.

Fas

This system is made up of large planet sized balls of fire and plasma. They travel quickly in their orbit of a large orange and yellow sun. Sometimes they smash into each other, and sometimes they split apart. There are some large areas of open space between the orbits, but those can be quickly filled with plasma. There is a legend of a battle between two powerful wizards that set the system on fire.

This is a small mountainous world. There are few flat areas. It is heavily forested. The temperatures are usually cool. There is a small seasonal tilt to the world. The oceans cover about 70% of the planet.

This planet is very hot. There is little here but some hot sand that melts to glass and evaporates. There is no water. The atmosphere is thin and hot.

Krathus

This second desert planet is also uninhabitable. It has large sand dunes and strong winds. There is no water. Sometimes the atmosphere will magnify the sunlight onto the already hot sand to melt it into glass. It has one desert moon that is habitable.

Or is a small planet. There is no atmosphere. The land is almost completely flat with some craters. The planet gets very warm in the sun and very cold at night.

Druath

When first veiwing this planet from a distance, a person might think it to be a gas giant. On a closer look that person would see that there is a small planet sized ball of rock with large pieces of land floating over it. These pieces never run into each other. They repel each other when they get too close. They are all very dense and have their own gravity, though it is small for most of them. There are some towers of rock attached to the main planet that rise thousands of feet into the air The Gasses that make up the atmosphere are mostly unbreathable. There are lightning storms. Sometimes water will form into clouds and it will rain. There is also a rain of acids at times. The light from the sun refracts into many colors through the clouds. The temperature is usually warm all over the planet.

This is an ice world. There is very little atmosphere so the light from the sun is not refracted. This and the distance from the sun make the sky as clear in the day as it is at night. There are oceans that are still liquid. There are sometimes blue clouds in the sky. The water in these clouds freezes and falls as fine ice crystals.

Aureus

This is a binary system of two suns. One is blue and the other is white. They orbit each other closely enough that the plasmas flow toward each other.

Free floating planets

Talorn

Talorn has a frozen atmosphere. This planet has large frozen oceans and lakes. There are also many mountains on this planet. There are people that are working in bases trying to find ways to make the planet habitable.

Antheas

This is a small planet in the Antias nebula that is not habitable. It is mostly rock and has no atmosphere. There are small research stations on the planet that study the surrounding nebula.

Flora and Fauna:

Zharyth

Zharyth

There are pegasi on Zharyth. Their numbers have gotten much smaller over the millenia. The last unicorn was seen more than 200 years ago, and no one's really sure if that was really a unicorn or not. They have mostly become a myth in the empire.

There is a special type of snail on this world. These snails float slowly through the air near the ocean at sunset. They leave sparkling slime trails in the air. When anything comes up to threaten them, they speed away through the air faster than can be seen. They produce a drug that can be intoxicating when they are eaten.

There is a type of small horse called a mira that lives near streams that has gills on it's muzzle. These horses sometimes run though deep rivers. It is thought that they evolved from an ancient water horse that is only thought to be legend. They have very short hair and are usually very calm. The mira's hoof can spread to a webbing that allows it to swim easier.

In the tropical rain forests and in some swamps is a large, man sized lizard. It walks on two feet usually and has long, thick arms. It is called talzin. These creatures are very strong and fast. They act much like apes. Studies of these lizard people, as some like to call them, show that they might be growing in intelligence enough to be called a sentient species relatively soon. In the past these creatures were used in wars. They were taught to swing swords and carry supplies for armies. Later, they were thought of as just animals to be hunted like the apes. They were almost hunted to extinction until the new kingdoms were formed in the times of peace and protected areas were formed. Some think that the talzin were becoming sentient before and others think that there might have been whole tribes of intelligent talzin. If there were, there is no record.

In the lakes are large fish called feytl that grow to about 5.2 inches long. These fish have large fins that can be used as wings. They don't eat much and are light weight. They can glide with their wings along the water for hours on a breazy day. When they get too dry, the go back to the water. Sometimes they will wander over land and die. They are usually a silvery color and shine in the sunlight. These fish usually fly in large groups over large areas of bugs. There is a larger form of this fish in the oceans that lives off of ocean plants. The ocean version grows to about 1.68 feet long.

A hanis is a large circular ocean creature that moves by spinning in circles and moving their edges up and down. They also live on ocean plants. They are grey in colar and grow up to 6.7 feet in diameter.

Mordrin

There are few forests on this world, and most of the trees in those forests are dead or dying. Some of the trees give fruit, but that is usually poisonous. The few animals that live on the planet are not friendly and will eat anything that comes near them.

The ractor is a large and fierce beast. They have very large teeth that they use to tear down the medium sized trees if another creature is hiding in it, or if they want to eat the tree. The thick fur is black. It resembles a giant black wolf with a wider and rounder body and slightly flatter face. They eat anything organic and have a strong immunity to poisons.

The creatures on this world are mostly small. They are all herbivores. There are many plants and trees that can be used for food and medicine. There are some small floating villages high in the atmosphere of the planet. Not many people are allowed to go down to the surface of the planet.

The yicean plant produces a chemical in the leaves that can relieve headaches. Some people have found that they can also help with some sicknesses.

The largest of the creatures on this planet are about the size of a large rabbit. Their soft fur is usually fully white and they have large, leathery wings which they use to glide from tree to tree. They have short front legs and slightly longer back legs for better jumping into a glide. They have short and sharp claws for climbing and sharp teeth. They have small ears. They are called gabins.

The bynis are a small creature that grow to about 2.4 inches tall. They are thin, hairless, and slightly transluscent. They stand on their hind legs and have small, sticky hands and feet. The eyes are small and black. They don't appear to have any ears. The heads are almost perfectly round with a small bump where the nose is. They are very curious creatures, but nervous. They almost seem to be very intelligent beings at times, but tests have shown that they are not.

There is a popular plant here called a gralin. It produces a liquid that can be used to flavor water. If enough is used, the water will begin to fizz. It changes the water a dark red color.

There are many insects that also enjoy the gralin plant making the places where these plants grow a favorite home for many of them. One is called the graeseen. This insect has two long wings and is about two inches long. When it bites someone, it gives a poison that causes sleep and a headache when the victim wakes up. The sugar from the fruits and plants this insect eats collects on it's wings and falls off during flight making a sparkling trail.

The bug population around gralin plants is kept down by the lanish. These lizards are usually hungry. They also like the sugar in the graeseen. They are harmless to humans. The lanish grown up to two feet long. They have a wide body and a long, sticky tail. The tail can be used to grab insects for the creature to eat.

Volsharr

This planet has small energy life forms that live in the crystal. They are not sentient. They travel through the crystals and live off of the sunlight. Some seem to live off of other things. Different colors of crystals will sometimes attract them. There are different kinds of these energy creatures in the crystal, like different microscopic organisms. There are also some small crystaline bugs that slide along the crystal. They can attach themselves to the sides of crystals and slide up them.

One of the few forms of life here are rockworms. They start out less than an inch long, but grow to over 10 feet. They eat through almost any mineral. They don't need air and can live in space. Water is deadly to these creatures. The miners on this world wear suits that hold a thin layer of water in them that will keep the smaller worms away. The larger worms can usually be heard coming and aren't much of a problem.

History:

Zhayth

Around 4,300 years ago, the world of Zharyth was in a quantum zone thought to be high in magic and science both. The world's kingdoms and empires were growing and gaining knowledge and power. Many of the kingdoms had lived in peace for hundreds of years before this time, but more were beginning wars. Some believe that a spell went wrong and an evil being came through a gate to the planet to destroy. Others believe that one kingdom simply go greedy, closed its borders, and tried to take another kingdom. No one knows for sure. The progress of the kingdoms slowed down a lot. When these two kingdoms started fighting, alliances were made and other kingdoms joined the wars. The kingdoms at war would try to destroy any kingdom that they found claiming that the other kingdom wasn't worthy of being around. The peaceful kingdoms would get destroyed or have to hide and defend themselves.

Records show that there might have been an elven race at this time. It is not know if they were in the wars or if they stayed to themselves on a large island continent.

Evil kingdoms would try to use dragons for their purposes. A few dragons agreed, but most of the dragons stayed on caverns in the mountains and lived off of magical rocks.

About 300 years later, the people were getting over the wars and problems and the people were looking more to the stars and advancements in their kingdoms. There were still small wars going on around the world, but nothing that stopped progress. Things were slowly calming down and getting easier for everybody. The kingdom of Strith, with the private help of another small, but powerful kingdom, had a flight into space with one of it's ships, a sailing ship that was unprotected. The crew died. It's thought that one of the rival kingdoms had a wizard killed, the wizard that was controlling spells to protect the ship from space.

This event got most of the world to find peace treaties so that they could kind different ways of reaching the stars. A little more than 50 years later, with the competition that was generated, many different forms of space travel were produced. Some were magical and some were technological. The world started finding peace again. The dragons were coming out again and finding new magical ways to help to take the people to space. But the warring kingdoms were finding new ways to use the space vehicles for war. There were also still demons running loose on the planet.

During the first one hundred years of space flight, the Zharythians found other empires, and they found different quantum zones. The relationship with the Kendis empire is not known. There was communication between the two, but most records have been lost. There were about 300 more years of relative peace and learning. They also found the Valshee system and the planet Arcantis. The people built schools of magic and a kingdom on this planet. It was mostly wizards that came to this world. Later, they also found a habitable planet called which they called Talishar in another system.

The wars on Zharyth began growing once again. The dragons would sometimes fight the evil empires, but most went back into the caverns. Demons were agin being summoned to command space vehicles and destroy kingdoms, and empires would claim that they should rule the world. The demons would have their own agenda simply to destroy everyone. Evil necromancers would suck the life from people, and large explosions of energy would shatter kingdoms.

Then, a large quantum wave hit the world. Most of the ships in space stopped working. Some were disintegrated. The demons began disappearing, and the necromancers lost their powers. Some think that if there were elves, they either left to another part of the universe through a magical portal before the wave hit, ot they were destroyed by the quantum wave. Arcantis and Talishar were both cut off from Zharyth. They have separate histories.

The kingdoms would blame each other for the loss of power and the changes. When the quantum wave was past, they would start wars with what they had, which was mainly stick and stone at first. Highly flamable oils and fuels were used as weapons. The crystals of the world could now be destroyed for large explosions.

The records that can be found show that at this time, the Kendis empire was gone. The people on Zharyth would blame each other and get into more wars. Priests who lost their powers started worshipping kendis with no effects. Most of the nature priests accepted that things changed because of a quantum wave and didn't bother to argue with the other priests. Many of the priests would bacome fanatical. The Kendis empire fell into complete myth. People would claim to see Kendis and be granted special godhood by him, before being killed by whoever was in charge. Other people would believe that their kingdom was chosen by Kendis to dominate the others. The wars went on.

One kingdom called Shallindar, sometimes called Shaldaria, was lost during this time. It was a kingdom that had come up around 400 years earlier, a kingdom that was peaceful and helped Strith and other kingdoms with the creation of ships in hopes of creating a lasting peace over the world. There are now legends that the kingdom was advanced enough to stay out the way of the warring kingdoms. This kingdom was thought to have kept records of everything that happened before and after the quantum wave. The records were kept in many ways in case of a quantum wave to insure that the informatoin woudln't be lost when one form of recording got destroyed. They were also thought to have been hidden in other quantum zones. If this informatoin was collected, it disappeared with the kingdom and is scattered over the galaxy. The kingdom has not been seen since the disappearance. The current empire is still searching for any trace of it. There are great legends and myths about the empire.

The kingdoms used their swords and explosive weapons for the next 1000 years. There was alwys peace somewhere, and people that tried to create more peace. But there were also always wars that would sometimes go into the peaceful kingdoms. After this time peace started noticably coming out again slowly. Over the next 500 years a few treaties were signed and a few kingdoms united. But there were still small wars.

When these peaceful kingdoms were uniting with some outside help, a newer smaller kingdom appeared call Shillaern with a great king named Torinar who worked with the other kingdoms for peace. People aren't sure where this kingdom came from or how it stayed hidden. He worked to make alliances between kingdoms tired of war and other peaceful kingdoms. This peace for the majority of the planet took over 50 years to achieve. Some wars would still be waged in small areas, but they wouldn't affect the majority of the world. The kingdoms united and led by Torinar, who was still mysteriously young, told the warring kingdoms to stop. The other kingdoms ignored them and were shown powers they had never thought possible. When they finally listened and the wars ended, the king offered a new single empire. The other kingdomscomplained about giving their power to his empire. He showed his plans to create a planetary empire, of all of the empires and kingdoms who would still have power ovcer their areas, but with one common law and rulership. The kingdoms which were united already agreed and the warring kingdoms reluctantly agreed. 50 years later there was peace and the world began working to learn the past and fix prts of the planet destroyed by the battles.

Arcantis

After the Shattering, Arcantis was cut off from Zharyth. The people also noticed that their magical powers had gone down. Many of their magical racording devices had been destroyed, and the magical books disappeared. A person names Valis called the people together telling them that she was sent by another kingdom to help make sure that the civilization on this world was built in peace. She told the people of her kingdom and showed them some sort of proof. The name of the kingdom that sent her and what proof she had were lost. Most of the people believed her. The people began to work to restore the civilization and rebuid. What they didn't know was that a powerful demon that had come through a magical gate to the world from Zharyth was still there, cut off from it's own dimension.

While the people rebuilt and started their own kingdom under the rule of Queen Valis, The demon found some human followers from the more warlike kingdoms of Zharyth. The demon also still had a high amount of magical power compared to the humans and could enslave many of them. He built an army of humans, some living and others undead.

After about many years of building and exloring, the people of Arcantis noticed that many of the people had changed. Many other people bagan noticably disappearing. The Demon was nearly finished with it's army, and when the people bagan noticing strange things, he attacked.

He first went after Queen Valis and somehow opened a gate to banish her in another plane. Many thought her to be dead. A king was quickly chosen from her council.

The demon wars went on for hundreds of years. Humans in the demon army would learn ways to change themselves into powerful demons. The main demon learned new magics to attack with. Kingdoms fell and the demon's army grew.

The battles with demons lasted for over 400 years. After that, the wars started coming at random times and in random places. Over 500 years later, the ruling king found a way to stop the creatures and attacked the demon lord. Somehow Queen Valis reappeared with the help of some wizards and helped to destroy the demon armies. Her final act was to banish the master demon to a firey place. No one knows where exactly.

Most of the demon's forces were destroyed. After the demon was gone, the people spent over a hundred years cleaning up with the available magic and rebuilding.

Talishar

Only a year after Talishar was found, the planet was cut off from the rest of space. The people didn't have much, and they hadn't explored the planet a lot. There were new diseases attacking people that they didn't understand.

After the first few villages were built the people began to build their kingdoms again. Some noticed that graves had been dug. The bodies were searched for and found to have become undead creatures. Soon there were many undead creatures on the planet. some of the people looked for ways to become undead creatures under their own power. There were small wars against undead armies. The people soon became used to the occasional undead creature killed. The kingdoms grew.

The people of Talishar still studied their magic and found new ways to use what magic was available. They also began learning new ways to use technology. The kingdoms began building stone roads over the planet. They also started using some flamable materials to run machines in new factories. There were still many people who chose to study the magic, even though it had become harder to use. There are many wizards here that study death and the undead.

The planet currently has factories and roads. The nights are still feared for the undead creatures that still walk the night. The large armies of undead creatures aren't seen. It is thought that there are still some powerful undead people around that chose to become undead. Some think that these people are re-building armies to take the planet.

This system was found about 844 years ago. The planets were named for the eight lords of death in Zharythian mythology. The system was named for one of the names of the realm that the eight lords lived in.

Nexor

When this world was first found, it was a dark world that people didn't like to go to much, but it had valuable nyth to be mined. Nyth would help a person to detach their life force from their body allowing the person to freely move around the galaxy and to move ships. If too much is used, the person dies. The first people there saw many horrible undead animals that they could only think would come from some other world. Almost anything that died would come back. Some of the people started becoming undead creatures. Because of the constant darkness on the planet, they couldn't hope for daytime to bring some peace. They formed a system to watch for undead creatures and set up powerful lights around the main kingdom. The people stayed and the population grew. There were some wizards who founds ways to use nyth in ways to become living dead instead of the mindless creatures that normally walk the planet. Some did this for evil purposes to try to take over cities. There were only a few attacks and few deaths. There were other wizards that did this simply to experiment and learn more about death and the undead. There are rumors that some of the thinking undead people are still around.

The world is currently busy with mining nyth. The number of undead creatures has gone down. The people still worry about possibly running into an undead creature. There aren't many people that live on this world. The number of wizards on this planet is very low. Mostly tech is used and little magic.

Caevok

This world was found 642 years ago. Some people think that there was a dwarven kingdom here at one time. The planet doesn't have much of a history. Most of the people that live on the planet mine precious metals and glowing rocks.

Yavin

Yavin was inhabited 421 years ago. The cities were built using mostly tech because of the raise of the tech level in the q-dex. They have lived in peace and have made many scientific discoveries. Much of the technological research has been done on this world.

Government:

The main kingdom on Zharyth called Shilaern is made up of the emporer, Draxeer Osh, and a council of ten highly trained people. He is called king when the people are referring to him as the ruler of the kingdom and emporer when people are refering to the rulership of the empire. The emporer is chosen by the current emporer, usually about ten years before the emporer is going to leave the throne. There are other kingdoms on the planet that are smaller parts of the main kingdom of Shilaern. These kingdoms report to the king's council and have representatives in the main kingdom to give the opinions of the people in their kingdom. Each citizen in the empire has a vote in the laws and policies of the empire. The other planets in the empire also send representatives to Zharyth, and have similar systems. The dragons also have a human representative who speaks for them. The royal council is chosen by the king. They send the minor reports to different areas in the empire and discuss major problems with the emporer. All reports are recorded and kept.

There is a special school that all candidates for the emporer go to. Most people enter this school when they are 14 to 16 years old. To enter this school, the person must be strong in science, sorcerery, and psionics. They must also have strong ethics and morals. These are tested at the beginning by a knowledge crystal in the center of the school. After a few years of study at this school, the students are tested at the knowledge crystal again to see who will has learned enough to stay with the current study. If they do not pass, they can go into some other study. Some go into the military, some to studies for other political positions, and some for other jobs that require higher learning. The students that pass this test go further with their studies. After a couple of more years, they are tested again at the crystal. The people that fail here usually go to other political jobs in Shilaern or other kingdoms. Some can even become the ruler of the smaller kingdoms. They can also go to other worlds for their political careers. The few people that pass the test are sent to more private studies. They also wait for the king to step down. The people that make it this far in the school can become rulers of smaller kingdoms, take a position on the royal council when someone decides to step down or dies, or become king when the king steps down. They also usually have their choice of just about any other job they want.

When the current ruler decides to leave his position, he or she chooses another person to take his place. This person is usually from the royal academy, though it can be any other person that the king chooses. There was a time when a person from outside the academy was chosen. The people rarely argue with the kings decision. After the choice is made, the people are allowed to vote on the decision. The ruler will gives his or her reasons for the choice and the people will hear the reasons that another may want to become the ruler of the empire. So far, the emporer's choice has always won. The king then takes this person in for more learning which can sometimes take up to ten years.

Most of the people like the current government. There are four small kingdoms that oppose it. They have been demanding elections that would be run by them. They give out disinformation about Shilaern and threaten violence. They tell the people that the government is controlling them. Not many people listen to them. They have at times gotten dangerous, but have always been stopped. Some of their ideas have spread to other planets in the empire, but they only have a small number of followers on a couple of them.

One group of people that is thought to have much power in the military and the government is a group of wizards that are sometimes called the shadow mages and other times wizard lords. They are very powerful and can do things that most people don't undertand. They are very secretive and stay to themselves. Some people are nervous around them and avoid them. Others seek them out in hopes of finding answers to some question or problem. Sometimes they are seen walking out of the main castle in Shilaern. They are known to have meetings with the king. No one really knows what happens in these meetings. The kingdom of Kalt sometimes creates romors that these wizards are really running the empire secretely for their own purposes.

Foreign Policy:

The Zharythian empire is mostly peaceful. There are some pirate groups and thieve's guilds that cause some problems with travelers. There are also four smaller kingdoms on Zharyth that send out false information to visitors telling them that Zharyth is a violent place where the king controls his people with magical and psionic forces. They aren't usually listened to, though. The people are usually friendly with outsiders and like to trade and bring in new things from other worlds. The empire likes to gather histories and other information from around the galaxy. People from other empires will be expected to follow Zharythian laws.

Becoming a citizen isn't usually hard. The person must fill out forms and show that he or she has a job, or some way of contributing to society. They must also prove that they don't have a criminal past with records from their own empire.

Domestic Policy:

The government doesn't conrol the lives of the citizens. The people have freedom of speach and choose their own lives. The taxes are low. Laws are voted on by all people in the empire. The citizens can vote over a computer network, or at a voting station. Government officials don't get more money than they need to use, and they don't usually need to use much. Records are kept on what the government uses the money for. The people are allowed to see these records over the computers. The security force is run by an order of knights, separate from the military. They patrol the cities and keep the order. There are also crystals that fly over the worlds that watch for any problems. They are programmed to watch for only specific crimes and can't be used to look in on a person's privacy. If a person complains about it, the knight in charge of the security crystal will be questioned with a truth crystal. False reports can lead to fines.

When a Zharythian citizen breaks a law and is caught, he or she are taken to a court. They will first have to speak with a truth crystal present. If the person refuses to tell the truth, they will be scanned to find what happened and the reasons the person broke the law. They do have the choice to tell a person in private if they need to. The scan is done by a psionicist through a crystal that filters out any unrelated information. If the person says that the scanner looked too far into his or her mind, the scanner will have to be checked and any extra information will be erased. The punishments depend on the reason of the crime. They can range from being put on a jail farm and learning a trade to having their mind completely erased. The person's mind can be erased only if it is found that the person is violent and has no feelings for a violent action and the person has no intention of changing.

Society:

Society in the empire varies from place to place. Most of the people in the empire seem content with their lives. The average life span is 140 years, though there are some people in the forests that are over 180.

The majority of people on Zharyth are usually logical in their actions. Not to the point of being unfeeling. The schools teach logic and ethics from the earliest classes. People are still unique and have their own ideas on what is or isn't ethical. Not all of the kingdoms have the same school system. There are people in some small kingdoms that are given disinformation all their lives about Shilaern and the king. They don't trust the king much. The people that leave their kingdoms to find out for themselves are usually kept out of their kingdoms when they try to go back. These kingdoms are getting much smaller and will soon be gone.

The people of Talishar live with some fear of undead at night. They have mostly found ways around the undead and have mostly gotten used to it. The people of this world seem to others to be calm, but the general mood does not seem to be too happy to most people. There are recent pollution problems from the factories and illness because of it.

Then there are the people of Nexor that live in darkness much of, or all of, their lives. They spend time with the undead around any corner and their lives are shaped differently. The people are cautious, sometimes a little too cautious. They don't talk much to outsiders, though they are usually friendly, or at least polite, when they do talk.

The people of Arcantis are usually happy. They haven't had many problems with anything since they defeated the great demon's army over 1,000 years ago. Things have been pretty peaceful since then. There are many farmers and magicians on this world and this world has some of the best magic schools in the empire. They live their lives as the elves in their myths. There are some people that think that there are many people there with elven blood.

The people of Yavin are mostly scientific and usually even more logical than the people of Zharyth. They do much of their work with technology. Wizards are accepted, but they don't get much work unless they are also highly skilled in some technological field. The people are friendly, but usually busy.

  • There are only two major religious groups. The faith and a nature worshipping religion. They have common views on religion and don't argue about it. The people of the faith are usually pretty open about their beliefs. The nature priests usually keep to themselves.

  • There are very few poor people. Most of the people that are poor are by choice. The rest are if they have lost a job, but they can usually get a new job pretty easily. If a person is poor, there are plenty of farms to work on made for the poor. They produce their own food and help grow food for the rest of the world. They are also given houses near the farms. If they want, they can also learn new things while working on the farm in nearby acadamies. Plus they get paid, so they aren't poor anymore.

Languages:

There is one main Zharythian language. Some people still speak the in older languages to keep them around.

Religion:

The largest religion in the empire is more of a philosophy. It is made from science, logic, and faith. It has no name and is generally refered to as the faith. The people in this religion believe that all things in the universe are connected, and that all things came from the same source. The universe created all things. Some of the people in this religion think of the universe as having a consiousness of its own, and that it made all things in it for some purpose. Some think that it made people to understand itself better. Others think that it created people so that they could learn about life. There is a belief that other gods in the universe are lesser gods created by the universe to teach, protect, control certain parts of the universe, or just to add to the lives of the people. Whatever the reason, they have a purpose. The differences are discussed between the different members to try to find the truth. These people don't tell others what to believe, just what they believe. Society generally respects these priests and the people listen to their ideas about the universe. The religion has no strong power or influence over politics and society, and they don't try to take power.

The second largest religion also isn't exactly a religion, though many people in the empire see it that way. It is a religion that respects all of nature. If asked why they worship nature, one of these people will say that they don't. These people think of it as more of a way of life. They live with and respect nature, and they work with and protect life. They talk with animals and help plants grow. They say that they speak with powerful spirits of nature. They also have strange and powerful spells related to nature. The people of this belief do understand why people would see it as a nature worshipping religion and they don't argue about it.

This religion is older than the faith, but very similar to it. If asked what the difference is between this religion and the faith, they will say that there isn't much of a difference. They believe that both religions have a similar understanding of the universe. The main difference is that the nature priests concentrate their beliefs and practices more around life. The priests of this religion have ceremonies, usually out of tradition, in the trees. In the past, the religion worshipped many different nature gods. Now they respect all of nature as one creator, just as the faith sees the universe as the creator. They do believe that nature has the ability to create or form part of itself into a powerful being to teach them and help them. They believe that nature had done this in the past when the other gods were worshipped. The priests of this religion are usually more secretive than other religions, and society in general usually leaves them alone. They usually live in the forests with their families, almost in a way that may seem tribal to some. People usually see them as a mysterious and powerful religion.

There are other smaller religions in the empire that argue constantly over who's god is better. They are getting smaller as the members get sick of the arguing and fighting. There have been some violent attacks from different religions, but those are becoming rare as those religions die out.

Castes:

There were castes in the earlier times of the empire. Slavery is almost nonexistant in the empire. There are a few pirate groups that use slavery a little, but it is rare even with them.

Economy:

The main economy in the empire uses gold, silver, and copper. This currency was changed slightly when the empire rejoined the greater galaxy. The coins are now checked for the energy signature of the quantum zone. Paper money is becoming less common, and people are using electronic cards more often that have finger print, psionic, and picture identification in them to transfer money through banks. There is also barter in places. All of this may change soon with the creation of a machine that can create matter. Some say that it will cause the destruction of the entire empire without the need for money. It is thought that the royal council has already found a solution, or that they are working on one.

Military:

The military on Zharyth is run by knights. These knights live by ancient codes of honor. There are orders of knights in air bases, in sea bases both on and under the water, and on the land. There are also knights in space. The highest knights have meetings with the king in the palace. Some stay at the palace at all times, while others leave to their normal bases. There are lower ranks of soldiers under the knights.

On Arcantis the military is run by powerful wizards. These wizards have to take the same oaths to the empire that the knights do. They have some people on Zharyth that join in the meetings with the king and the knights.

There is also a small but more powerful order of knights that have strong psionic powers. They are separate from the military, but serve the empire as the other knights. The other knights will take orders from them as if given from the king. The king usually has at least two of these knights with him when in public.

Sports and Leisure:

The Zharythian empire enjoys music, art, and some sports. One popular form of art is light sculpting. There are also some people that have learned a form of dark sculpting using different shades of darkness. There is also much magical art, especially on Arcantis, that use illusions. There is sculpting of sand and rock. There are magical sparkling waters in some areas that can be sculpted magically into different flowing forms. These are usually made so with a control that can stop the water, or solidify it into ice. The natural magic in the water helps the magic hold. There hasn't been a water scultpure yet that has fallen apart.

There are some sports both magical and non magical. There are also some games played by the dragons that the humans enjoy watching. One of these is an annual race through the astroid belt. The dragons dodge lightning strikes and asteroids to the other side. If hit with a lightning bolt, they have a spell ready to teleport them out of the race and back to a dragon station.

A game played in the skies called dalgot is popular. The arena is a cube shape. A ball of light appears in the center of the arena and the people simply have to hit the ball to the back border of the other team's side of the arena using a long staff. This staff can be separated in the middle for two separate sticks. Since this is off the ground, it takes zero gravity skills. The players can push off of the magical boundries. The ball can be hit off the the side boundries on the other team's side, but not their own. There can be from one to 8 players on a team. This game is also used in some combat training.

The people sometimes watch plays on holo projectors, though this is becoming less common. People are reading or creating their own holo-adventures more often. They also enjoy games over the computer through their holo-projectors and virtual nets.

Arcantis has many festivals. Some areas on the planet have too many and don't get much done. The goal of many people in their work is to make a good festival for the next month, and some work for the festival for the next week. Many of these festivals have specific names and purposes, but a lot of them are just around to have a festival. On any night there will be a festival somewhere on the planet. There are many illusions that fly around the cities and lights. The people here have much music, but little singing. There is dancing at the festivals, games, and stories.

Many people on Ferynth enjoy flying. The low gravity and heavy atmosphere make gliding easier. Some people use levitation spells and float in the breezes. Others use machines. Machines that burn things to work are not allowed. Some games are played in the air. They also like wandering the planet and watching the different forms of life. The empire requires a special pass to go to the planet's surface.

Major Population Centers:

The main kingdom in the empire is called Shilaern. It is also the name of the central city of the kingdom. This is the most highly populated city on Zharyth. The city has the royal acadamy that teaches the next candidates to become emporer. While most of the planet doesn't have streets, this city has some roads of marble and strong crystal. The kingdom of Strith is also becoming more populated as a place of learning because of it's history with space travel.

The kingdom of Valis on Arcantis, named for the first queen, is the most highly populated kingdom on that world. The ruling queen of Arcantis lives here.

The planet Yavin has a large spaceport in orbit. Many people stop here to relax, talk, and trade.

Chronic Problems:

There are four small kingdoms that are against the kingdom. They are demanding elections run by them and threatening war. There hasn't been a war on Zharyth in about 1,000 years. The people are happy with the system. The opposing kingdoms give out false reports of the kingdom controlling the people and forcing them to agree.

There has been a reported sighting of a demon. The last sighting of this demon was over 400 years ago. This is causing fear in many of the people. The histories mention a demon of the same description that tried to take over the world during the wars.

There are still some mutant tribes wandering and attacking small vilages. These mutants were created by evil wizards in both before and after the fall of the Kendis empire. They were people magically twisted and sometimes mixed with other creatures from the world's past such as goblins and trolls.

The pirates and thieve's guilds have been attacking ships passing through space. They have been getting a little more daring recently. The pirate group called the Star Dagger has been attacking both more frequently and more randomly. It is thought that they are working with another group of pirates, though it is not known which one.

People are complaining about the matter creation device. They don't want the government to end the current economic system with this device. Most of the complaints come from those four small kingdoms that are opposed to the kingdom anyway.

It is thought that the dark knights, corrupt knights with strong psionic powers have been building power on Mordrin. There are rumors that they are planning on attacking.
