a.k.a. Alania or the Valdeen Supremacy

Overview:

Although they have roots in two stellar systems it seems that only one planet is occupied by life. It is called Alania. Alania is one large desert. It is ruled under the Valdeen Supremacy. Despised by the people, Valdeen has taken over the planet in hopes to enter the Omniverse as a king. To this end he uses technological replicas which he has stolen from the Underground Mages.

Technology:

Centuries ago, before the Alanians came to Alania, they lived on the beautiful planet of Intha. One of the two ruling clans, the Aland, had developed high enough technology to travel to different stellar systems. Incidentally, they discovered Alania on one of these exploratory missions. War erupted between the two clans and the Alandis decided it best to leave. They traveled to Alania. Practically all of their advanced technology was lost. They began to rely on their inherited mystical abilities. 

Now an underground society of mages is producing high technology devices. It is believed that these are just magical replicas that do the same things as the originals only through mystic powers, but no one is really sure. For all the people know, the mages could have discovered some kind of power source which allows them to make these machines and devices. 

Magic:

Magic has become more and more common as people discover abilities they never seemed to have before. Magic however is inherited, and so each time it is passed down the magic becomes stronger. Most magic must involve runes or spells, but the strongest magic is known as sorcery. Not much is known about sorcery but is believed to be the magic of the Underground Mages. 

Valdeen hopes to recruit some of the Mages for his own purposes. So far none have come willingly, and only a few have been captured. 

Size:

Only one planet sustains life in the Trin 2-3 system. It is Alania. However, there are three more planets. They are Dran, Dietris, and Tinax. In the Trin 1 system, which is nearby, their are two known planets. They are Necron and Intha. Some scientists now believe they have discovered another, which could sustain life. 

Population:

It is impossible to have an exact count since most people migrate, but the population is believed to be close to eight billion.

Climate and Geography:

Alania is basically one large spherical desert. There are a few crowded oases scattered across the planet. Underneath the surface of the desert are vast stone caverns and large natural springs and even underground rivers. Many people have discovered these hidden resources and are now living underground. 

Scientists say that Dran is a large planet covered with what looks to be vast forests and rivers. This would be very similar to their home planet of Intha. Valdeen is planning on sending an exploratory mission to investigate the planet from afar. 

Dietris and Tinax are both similar in makeup. They are covered with craters and volcanoes. Whether or not they are inhabitable is undetermined. 

Flora and Fauna:

On Alania there exist three types of pack animal. The first is the corna. Almost every family owns at least one. They are necessary for migration and carrying goods. They need little water and little food. The others are the minor and major rollins. One is simply smaller than the other. They need more food than the corna but can survive on no water. They arent as strong but they know the desert and can help their owners navigate across the planets surface. Found beneath the surface are many deciduous and coniferous trees; a type of fur covered, flesh-eating mammal called the anax is something to definitely watch out for.

History:

About 800 years ago all the Trinis lived on Intha. The people had split into clans, each clan using its own resources to live. The clans would trade with each other rarely. Each clan was self-sufficient; they were proud of this fact. A clan that couldnt carry its own weight would eventually be taken over by a stronger clan. This process of stronger clan taking over the weaker continued until there were only two clans remaining. The Trinis technology had advanced so that they were preparing their first exploratory mission of a nearby planetary system. 

One hundred years passed with these two clans living separately but in peace with each other. The clans were called Aland and Shankti. They traded to get what they needed from the other clan. The Sandells were a large, prosperous, and powerful family that had married into or befriended each colony, or sub-clan, within both the Aland and Shankti. The Sandell family easily took over the Shankti. They now wanted to merge with the Aland and become just one clan. 

Aland did not want to merge, even though many colonies left to join the Shankti, since they considered themselves to part of the Sandell family. Aland was more technologically oriented and did not want to give up their techno-friendly ways to the mystical powers which governed most of the Shankti. Also the Aland did not want to worship the silly gods and goddesses of the Shankti. Over the next twenty years the Shankti began taking over all Aland colonies. A bloody war began. Millions were lost on both sides. Colonies were completely obliterated, their entire history, bloodline, and culture lost. 

After another twenty years of war the Aland decided to end it. They had sent people to a nearby stellar system and had discovered a planet with harsh, but livable, conditions. They gathered all their people, although some decided theyd rather stay and convert to the Shankti ways (since they had an advantage in the war). Nearly a million Aland left loaded in about 500 ships. The Shankti had no idea they had left until they saw them in the sky, leaving the atmosphere. 

The stellar system they traveled to was very close. It took 78 years to get there using their advanced space drives. Three new generations of Alandis were born, each eager to settle a new frontier. They finally reached their new home. It was the third planet in the system, named Alania. 

Alania was a desert planet. They knew it would be harsh but the reality of it was hard to accept. They had not been able to bring all of their precious technology. Most of the ships were badly damaged during entry and the landing, so they were abandoned, left completely empty. Without their technology they ventured off into this new world, barely surviving for the next centuries. 

Meanwhile, on Intha the Shankti had deposed the last living Sandell from his throne and were now allowing the colonies to govern themselves. War was amidst all the clans again as the more powerful tried to take over the lesser. Something uncontrollable was happening as they fought, however. Scientists tried to warn the people, but being mystically-inclined and therefore not trusting science, their warnings were heard but not recognized as an actual threat. 

The name of Inthas sun was Trin. It was a relatively dim star. The Shankti enjoyed not-too-bright days on Intha and especially dark nights. The scientists were predicting that Trin would become what is known throughout the galaxy as a nova. It would increase thousands of times in brightness over the period of a few hours. This would sear all the life of Intha completely. As the days began to seem bit by bit brighter the clan leaders finally listened to the scientists. They reasoned they had to get off the planet as quickly as possible. They resurrected some of the old space-craft that were left behind by the Aland and fled in them. 

Many hundreds of thousands of people, mostly poor or people that had little knowledge of the technology used to run the space vehicles, were left behind. They embarked on the eighty-year flight to the only other habitable place they knew of, Alania. 

The Shankti woke up one morning and looked back to Intha, but their sight was blocked by the bright light of Trin. It had become a nova. Intha was dead. 

They arrived on Alania to find scattered settlements, similar to nomad camps. They had expected the high technology they loathed, but had come to depend on, but found only remnants of the advanced Alandis remaining. The Alandis did not want them there, but were too weary to fight. Although prejudice remained they lived together somewhat peacefully. The Alandis had learned to use the inborn magic, which they had come too have through interbreeding with the Shankti hundreds of years ago when they lived together, replacing the technology they used before. Some of this technology was being replaced in an underground mage society, whose abilities were beginning to allow them to replicate the age-old technology. Years later they began selling and trading their useful replications. 

Almost 165 years ago Milo Valdeen IV declared himself supreme ruler of Alania. He came from a mixed background of mages, Alandis, and Shanktis. He had gathered a large following. He had an elite force called the Sable Riders. It was their job to convince people to pay allegiance to Valdeen. They went into the settlements and if people didnt do as they said, that settlement was completely wiped out from existence. 

The Valdeens have been ruling ever since then, but still do not have control of all of Alania. The ruling center of the Valdeens is a city called Tyrolt. Right now the Sable Riders are trying to find the Underground Mages who produce the high technology replicas and convert them to Valdeen followers. There are numerous rebellion organizations formed at this time, the most powerful being the Alanian Outpost, who is trying to unite all rebellions into one revolution. 

A prophecy was released a few months ago by a mage. Alania is in a binary star system. For about a 4 days out of the year the brighter rotating star, known as Trin3 eclipses the dimmer stationary Trin2. The prophet predicts that when the Ecliptic Display (the 4 days) is over a new light will shine on Alania. The meaning of this is unknown although some people have connected this new light with the fact that Trin2 is dimming rapidly and scientists say it will die soon. That would leave them with only one sun in their sky and, hence, a new light shining. 

Finally, about twenty years ago a communication was received by the Alanian Outpost. It was practically indiscernible except for a few sentences. All that was heard was interpreted as: 

We deliver a message from..Trin1recovering Intha make further contact withrevived after.plan to reach. 

It seemed something to do with Trin1 had survived and they would be contacting the Alanian Outpost. But that had been twenty years ago and nothing else has been heard. Alanians continue to live under the Valdeen Supremacy. 

Government:

Alania is ruled by Milo Valdeen X, whom is not very popular with the general public. His laws are completely ignored unless his Sable Riders are sent to reinforce them. The Alanian Outpost is the most powerful resistance organization at the time and is trying to unite all oppositions to begin a full force revolution. A most unpopular law of Valdeens is that when a person enters a settlement they must pay a tax to the government. This is enforced by a Valdeen appointee. 

The Underground Mage Society has also begun work literally underground. They are working hand in hand with the Alanian Outpost. Whenever they can, they bring people underneath the desert and allow them to live secretly there. 

Foreign Policy:

Valdeen is anxious to enter the world of intergalactic economics. He will try to do his best to become a popular leader in the eyes of others. 

Domestic Policy:

The Valdeen Supremacy is obviously totalitarian. A person had better be careful what they say in the presence of Valdeen leaders or Sable Riders. There is no democratic trial system here. You will just be killed by beating or stabbing in undisclosed manner. The Sable Riders -- or Valdeens personal guard -- are fierce and not to be reasoned with.

Society:

The rank of a person is based on the strength of their magic. Since magics strength is determined by how long it has been in the family people with a large percentage of Shankti in them have stronger magic. They are basically one culture found amongst the people. It is a mixture of Aland and Shankti cultures. Honor is a key word on Alania. If the honor of either man or woman is challenged, they will fight the insulter to the death. 

Families are not very tightly-knit. Many parents abandon their children in a settlement to prevent them the pain and hardships associated with migrants. All people believe in a greater good and some kind of providence but their religion basically revolves around their magic. They pay worship to the powers of magic granted to them. People are either for Valdeen or against him. 

Since most people would love to see Valdeen fall, this supplies a common interest and a common goal for all people. Anyone who supports Valdeen is killed. Anyone who goes along with Valdeens laws is shunned. All money is controlled by Valdeen so no economic groups exist. All people are poor and rely only on trade with other poor citizens. Generally, anyone who has even a little money lives in one of the camp-like settlements. 

Languages:

There is one language on Alania and it is a mixture of the language of the Shankti and Alandi. It is centuries old and varies minimally across the planet. 

Religion:

The only religion the people know is loyalty to their magic. They worship and pray to the forces which allow them to have such magic but know them by no names. The Underground Mages call on one particular god however, whom they call Uinikut. They chant and pray to it. Valdeen also calls his god Unigut. Some question the similarities between the two gods. 

Castes:

People with stronger magic are considered more powerful and therefore are listened to more readily. These people are often leaders. Slavery exists but it is called servitude. People who travel in large packs have servants and workers who are treated very well. Valdeen and his officers have slaves who arent treated as well. 

Economy:

There is hardly any economy and certainly not a global one. People hunt for food. At the few oases and settlements some people try to farm. In the family everyone works to find food and shelter, men, women, and children.

Military:

Valdeen is building up a strong military and, of course, has his fierce team of Sable Riders. The people are all very strong fighters themselves and use their magic fiercely to defend themselves. If their opposition grows in numbers they could easily overturn Valdeen and he knows this. Though most technology was lost the Underground Mages have built some mystic-fueled transportation devices. They are many wheeled to easily track through the sand but hold only a few people. Due to this, most large groups of migrants walk or use pack animals.

Sports and Leisure:

There is little time for leisure in the harsh world of Alania. Over the four days of the Ecliptic display most people stay in one place and celebrate within their groups. Many people stay in a settlement over the four days and celebrate with the people who live there. Throughout the year within the groups of migrants there may be small hunting contests and sometimes groups are known to race other groups to a specified site.

Major Population Centers:

The only major city on Alanias surface is Tyrolt. This is Valdeens headquarters. Most people would be frightened to death of even coming close to it. Also most people dont know its exact location except that it is in the northeastern part of the northwestern hemisphere. For that reason that part of Alania is very scarcely populated by migrants. 

A migrant civilization known as Hope is the HQ for the Alanian Outpost. Its location will not be released to prevent Valdeen from raiding it. 

Also there are two major cities found underground and are governed loosely and democratically by the Mage Society. They are Sanden and Precosta. We should note that Valdeen is still unaware of the entrances to the underground world. 

Chronic Problems:

The Alanian Outpost is desperately trying to create a unification rebellion force to take on the Valdeen Supremacy. The Underground Mage Society is trying to save as many people as they can.
