The Marosian Galactic Systems

aka The Marosian Empire, T.M.G.S. and The Marosian Systems

Overview:

The people of the star system Maros are all humans and have 'recently' joined the numerous other space-faring empires across the Greater Galaxy. The Marosian Galactic Systems comprise of 3 star systems: Maros, Tristmorn's Eye and Alpha (aka Arcudon). The Marosian Galactic Systems comprise of two major factions, one being the Grand Kingdom of Tristmorn (GKT), (currently ruled by His Royal Holiness King Fymerdin III) and the other faction being the United Democratic Republics (UDR). (their current elected galactic representative being UDR Chairman Nyl Remo.) There is currently a Cold War occuring. The UDR are disgusted by the GKT's poor human rights record and development of nuclear weapons, but are afraid to push their demands too far, as the GKT have power over half the entire homeworld of Lithon. The GKT however is a rather poor nation compared to the combination of rich republics that make up the UDR and GKT dukes and earls are split on the descision to have war. Some GKT officials see extermination as the only means to be free of trade sanctions that the UDR places on the GKT. Some dukes and earls seek a better quality of life within the GKT.

Technology in the Marosian Galactic Systems are rather advanced. The Marosian Galactic Systems are most advanced in terms of medicine. Medical Practitioners are educated extremely well and almost every disease has a cure. Immunisation for all diseases is still in progress in some UDR nations and in the GKT. In terms of communication, ElectroMagnetic Acceleration (EMA) satellites are replacing the antiquated conventional communication satellites and now instant intergalactic communications is becoming a reality. Spaceships of the Marosian Systems are quite slow in comparison to the standard spaceship in many other empires, but nevertheless are famed to be very durable ships. Ships travel using a 'Holedrive' which in essence is a stable wormhole generator that so far have been only limited to larger spacecraft. Laser weapons have only been used in space as they are seen as cumbersome in ground combat. Planetary based armies carry machine guns and electronic guns.

The Marosian Galactic Systems is located in Sector Z and is a probationary member of the Delsym Alliance.

(I don't think this is right. I'm trying to aim for a Particle quantum zone in terms of tech and a Theurgical quantum zone in terms of magic.)

Technology:

Technology has been on a rapid increase during the last millenium. In the medical sphere, Marosians are said to be up-to-date with medical technology and practices and are even rumoured to be one of the best races in the field of medical science in the Greater Galaxy. Almost every disease has been cured in the Marosian Systems. In fact there are no diseases present on the home world, Lithon, but there are only two diseases that haven't been cured. They are both from Marosian colonies, one is 'Novram's Plague' which occurs every four years on Maldum IV and 'Swamp Fly Syndrome' which is found to be a common disease in small towns on New Minago.

In terms of spacecraft technology, the use of 'Holedrives' have started to be used in the commercial sector during the last two centuries. 'Holedrives' generate artificial stable wormholes to enable fast travel between large distances (e.g. system-to-system travel). The 'Holedrive' is currently being refined so that hopefully it will be able to be fitted onto smaller craft (as at the present moment the immense size of the generator have taken a huge bulk of the ship's mass) and if the range of creating the wormholes can be increased. Any attempt to increase the capability of the drive can cause the ship's structure to disintegrate or end up having a 'hyper-blunder' where the ship ends up thousands of light years away from civilization. Intra-system travel however, is now commonplace. The public can in fact purchase their own spacecraft for travel, however they tend to be very expensive and only the rich and famous can afford such luxuries. Most people travel on liners that travel frequently between planets.

In terms of weapons, lasers have only been used in space by the military spacecraft and marines of the GKT and UDR. In ground combat, Marosians tend to think that machine guns or electronic guns are sufficient enough in killing the enemies and see lasers as cumbersome weapons when used on a world's surface.

In terms of communications, on a global scale, Marosians have advanced mobile phones that are really small microchips fitted into a headset for instant global communication. The headsets have neural scanners that can detect brain waves and consequently can tell which person you want to contact in a split second. In terms of inter-galactic communication, EMA sattelites are used which makes sound waves which would usually take a decade to transmit to another system now may only take a few seconds due to advance electromagnetic acceleration techniques.

Robots are used extensively in agriculture and in industry. Food has evolved to be mostly synthetic, however 'real' food can still be purchased but is considered a delicacy on some worlds.

  • Climate and Geography:

Lithon: The planet Lithon is the home world of the Marosians and a terran planet. Major tectonic activity occurs frequently on the planet which is a threat to civilization although it has also made the planet mineral rich. Due to the frequent tectonic activity, Lithon's percentage of land mass is rather large, about 50% of Lithon is covered by land. Climates range on the planet from the freezing polar ice caps to the hot, humid equatorial regions. It is rather like Earth, except for the fact that it has large dynamic mountains, large continents, islands and huge veins of minerals. The average climate is a Mediterannean one.

Permethia: Permethia is uninhabited, as it is a green gas giant with massive blue gas clouds swirling on its surface.

Vendik: Vendik is a large moon orbiting Permethia that has an extremely arid environment, although traces of a thin atmosphere exist. A joint UDR mission in the year 15 N.A., resulted in the colonisation of this planet and the first Marosian ever to set foot on another planet (besides the Splinter Magicians, which everyone thought was a fairy tale anyway).

Ateros: A barren rocky moon with no atmosphere. Naval base established in 235 N.A. by the UDR.

Mikaron: A medium red and orange gas planet. Some gases are scooped up by 'tankers' and transported to the nearby Mikaron Orbiter.

Ditermius: Barren, rocky planet with no atmosphere. Science outpost established in 123 N.A. by the UDR.

Vermithius: Small, barren, rocky planet with no atmosphere. Naval base established in 457 N.A. by the GKT.

Herethia: Rather small, blue gas planet. A special sort of gas has recently been discovered on this planet. It seems rather volatile. Scientists have researched the planet for ten years, since 889 N.A.

    Tortith: Medium brown-orange gas planet.

Maldum IV: This planet was an unexpected but welcoming find by Marosian explorers as it had a similar environment to their home world, Lithon. It was a terran planet. Land, sky, sea, the works. Maldum IV is slightly smaller than Lithon and therefore has a smaller gravity. Maldumians seem to have longer lifespans than Lithonians due to this fact. However a recently discovered virus called Novram's Plague has stunted growth on this planet to a steady crawl. The average temperature of Maldum IV is a colder one than Lithon and Maldum IV experiences longer winters. The climate here on average is a cool temperate one. Coniferous forests are predominant on this planet. There aren't many mountain ranges, but the ones that exist are dynamic fold mountains.

    Horencian: Medium brown gas planet.

Milethion: Barren, rocky moon with no atmosphere.

Nemiphi: Barren, rocky moon with no atmosphere.

Orepheus: Miniscule, barren, rocky moon with no atmosphere.

    Quinephi: Large asteroid.

Raydor: Barren, rocky planet with no atmosphere. Has deposits of ice.

Manoc's Landing: Arid, semi-desert climate with many mountain ranges. Life exists here, but at a very primitive level. Many deserts abound the planet with some patches of savannah and lakes dotted across the globe.

Alpha 2: A blue gas planet with green swirls of Heronium dirygodide. This gas was introduced into Marosian society during the 2nd century N.A. The gas is a hallucogenic gas and is outlawed in most places in the Marosian Systems, due to a lack of knowledge on its side effects. This gas was rare and expensive since it was hard to manufacture and hard to obtain pure Heronium and Rygon. On Alpha 2, the gas strangely occurs naturally. There are many rumours that Temetheus Davson, owner of the Davson Trading Post, is owning a small fortune out of the smuggling of Heronium dirygodide (known as 'Unicorn') to and from his space station, conveniently located orbiting this world.

The Three Sisters (Xona, Yona and Zona): These three moons of Alpha 2 are called the Three Sisters due to their almost similar size and the fact that they are all barren, rocky moons. The Three Sisters have rich deposits of metals, resulting in the mining of them by megacorps.

Alpha 3: A huge red and yellow gas giant, dotted with volcanoes surrounded by magma. The frequent eruptions of the volcanoes are quite a spectacle and many honeymooners and families stay at the prestigious Vulcan Hotels Resort, orbiting the planet.

New Minago: A large ocean planet with only extremely small islands which are summits of underwater mountains. Major tectonic activity is not frequent and the climate of the planet is pleasantly warm.

Minago's Moon: Barren, rocky moon with no atmosphere.

Alpha 3(b): Barren rocky moon with no atmosphere.

Alpha 4: Barren, rocky world with no atmosphere.

    Economy:

Out of the two factions, the UDR is the obvious (and only at the moment) candidate that trades with the rest of the Greater Galaxy. The democratic form of government that exists within a majority of the member nations of the UDR, are mostly capitalist, and therefore citizens are involved in striving for increased personal wealth. After the maturing of the colonies settled by Lithon volunteers and convicts, a global stock exchange, fittingly called the Lithon Stock Exchange (LSE) was established. The LSE provided an interstellar stock exchange that provided newly formed colonial companies and home world megacorps to trade commodities. However the LSE is currently only used consistently by the UDR, as everything is owned by the King in the GKT. Trade is made with between the two factions but only on the planet Lithon. It is believed that whatever is traded for in Lithon, is then shipped to GKT colonies via freighters if required. The GKT colonies have so far never traded directly with the UDR or its colonies.

Ancient national stock exchanges still exist. The currency used in the GKT are still metal coins. Even though this may seem antiquated, GKT society believe that the use of 'tangible' objects for money is just common sense. Paper or plastic money is not used in the GKT. The coin of the realm is the Crown with 10 Orbs equalling 1 Crown. In the UDR, plastic notes are used. 1 Nugget equals 100 Granules.

In the UDR, the services industry is the predominant one, being about 60%, with secondary industry at 15% and primary industry at 25%. Surprising to some Marosian economists is the fact that in a developed empire like the UDR, the primary industry is larger that the secondary. However this can be attributed to the fact that most of the UDR colonies are involved in intensive mining operations and a substantial amount of income comes from this.

In the GKT, it is nearly the opposite. Agriculture is the predominant industry, even though machinery is used, many people are employed. With 50% of the GKT working population in agriculture, there is actually a large amount of surplus food. This surplus is stored and also sold to some overpopulated UDR nations. 40% of GKT industry is in secondary industry, principally in the production of basic computers and machinery and hand weapons, which the highest officials of the UDR are definitely not pleased about. 10% of GKT industry is involved in the tertiary industry in which most of this industry's employed are working in government departments and facilities.

    Major Population Centers:

There are many major population centres in the Marosian Galactic Systems and it would take too long to document them. Most cities are found on the main planet Lithon, however there are many other cities in the Marosian Galactic Systems, that aren't as large, but have more interesting histories and culture.

The president of West Emerigo resides here along with many historical monuments, important to West Emerigo and Old Emerigo history. Nowadays, Jarydton City is a mixture of the old labyrinth of city streets and slums that make up the Old City District and the new, high-rises of the urban landscape that make up the Jarydton District.
