The K'Endar Alliance

Overview:

The K'Endar Alliance is a small area of space. The people are friendly and welcome about most things but are very secretive about others. The Alliance is known for it's vast trading empire and goods. It is said that in K'Endar you can find anything you want and at least three stores that sell only that one item. The Endari are most hospitable and will allow almost anyone into their space. K'Endar is a place for new beginnings. The Endarian culture is based on trading, as soon as their young reach the age of six they are enrolled in the Alliance Trading Commission and are taught how to become excellent traders. So no matter who you deal with they will have some expertise as a trader. There are three other races native to the Alliance the Relar, The Emps, and the Wraiths. The Relar were subdued by the Endar and now live like them with their customs. The Emps are a small race known exclusively for their ability to steal. They live in the catacombs beneath the Endari cities. Nothing is known about the race that is called the Wraiths, they are native to the outer most planet of the Danol system but have since immigrated to other planets in the Alliance, living only in segregated colonies.

The Alliance uses a lot of technology in it's trading facilities and is able to showcase many technological and mystic devices. Although it has never been proven some people think that the Endari might be mystic themselves. This is one of the things they won't talk about.

Technology:

This was explained briefly earlier. The Endari use vast technology in their trading. Their ships are almost as advanced as the Omnet ships are. They also develop and learn very quickly, these particularities have made K'Endar the trading empire it is.

Magic:

The Endari do not use magic up-right but their high MSR lends itself to quick development and easy power. Again boosting the trading base to use magic good fluently. Some people rumor that the Endari also use magic to bind potential buyers, this is false but the Endari may use magic.

Size:

K'Endar is a small Empire of only three star systems with only ten planets sustaining life. The major system is Endar with sister systems of Kaymolsk and Danol. The Endar system has four life-sustaining planets, including Endar the Alliance homeworld, third planet from the sun. As well as New Asgard (second planet), Cal'shiar (fifth planet) and an asteroid with an oxygen atmosphere called Ordeth. Kaymolsk has two life sustaining planets, Eden(third planet) and Hask (second planet). The Kaymolsk system is the home system of the Relar. Danol has four habitable planets; Kregal (first planet, incapable of sustained life without artificial atmosphere and living zones), G'Toth (second planet), Hanta (fifth planet, homeworld of the Emps), and Janoth (eighth planet, homeworld of the Wraiths). The Danol system produced to separate life-forms, the Emps and the Wraiths. Both are troublesome to the Alliance.

Population:

The Alliance houses approx. 15 billion sentients in its borders.

Climate and Geography:

Endar System

Endar: Endar is a tropical planet, with a global average temperature of 27oC. It has a mild climate with infrequent storms. 65% of the surface is water and the land is rolling hills and forest. The Marketplaces (the translation for "city" in Endarian) have clear cut the forests away leaving great holes in the forest for Marketplaces.

New Asgard: This planet is home to Endari, Relar, and Emps. It also has a mild climate, but is much more mountainous than Endar. Water covers only 40% of the planet and mountains account for 25% of the land mass. New Asgard is mostly dependant on mining profits for its income.

Cal'shiar: This is a resort planet in the Endar system. It is completely climate controlled with no rain and a constant global temperature of 30oC. It has the largest goods only Marketplace in the entire Alliance. It draws tourists and businessmen from around the galaxy to sample its profits.

Ordeth: Ordeth is a roving asteroid in orbit around the Endar star. It has an oxygen atmosphere and a harsh climate the temperature drops below -40oC at night and usually gets up to 40oC in the day. The days are erratic with days lasting from 20 minutes to 30 hours. The inhabitants of Ordeth don't need to live in domes but must be sheltered during the dark or they will freeze.
Eden: This is the third planet in the Kaymolsk system. It has a mild climate and long flat plains with no surface water but a vast network of aquifers under the plains. Eden supplies most of the Alliance's food stores for domestic use and export.

Hask: This is the homeworld of the Relar. It is all high mountains and plateaus. It has a wet climate, the language has 23 different words to describe how hard its raining. The surface is 80% water and the planet has almost no tourist value.

Kregal: The first planet in the Danol system. It is incapable of sustained life without the use of artificial domes and living zones. In the Alliance it is known as planet Hell. It is a penal colony where no one escapes. Food is sent by pod to the surface as are prisoners. The atmosphere is carbon monoxide and methane, with an average temperature of over 200oC. It is also a mining colony like New Asgard but more for a corrective center than as a means of income.

G'Toth: This planet is uninhabited at this time. It used to hold an grand civilization but now is nothing more than ruins on a dead atmosphereless world.

Hanta: This is the homeworld of the Emps. It has an intolerable climate on the surface but a network of catacombs beneath the surface running about ten kilometers down. The caverns are dark and poorly ventilated. This planet has almost no redeeming value except for the fact that the Emps will pay thousands to be on their homeworld on a certain days.

Janoth: This world is always cloudy but never rains. It is the homeworld of the Wraiths so no other race lives there. Nothing is known about this planet.

Flora and Fauna:

Many different species live in the Alliance. I'll start with the sentients.
  • Endari - Human like with olive skin and lavender eyes. There eyes change color when they lie so they learn early on how to manipulate the truth. A Endari never lies but he never lets you get the upper hand either.
  • Relar - Human like in appearance but actually evolved from birds. They can communicate with birds and can heal themselves with surprising speed. They have little winglets on their back that are removed at birth.
  • Emps - Small semi-human creatures. They stand three feet tall with pointed ears and large eyes. Some are well versed in magic, most are not. Emps are telepaths and while they can't read minds they can make you think they're not there while they're stealing something.
  • Wraiths - Nothing is known about them.

Now onto some of the creatures found here.

  • Krel - A favorite pet among the Emps. They live in caves and look much like a ferret with large blue eyes and no hair. They can sniff out a jewel anywhere.
  • Man-lax - A large plant found all over the Alliance due to its delicious nectar, but it has a nasty habit of eating small animals.
  • Lothar - Large cat-like animals with huge fangs and claws. Rich nobles hunt these dangerous animals for sport.
  • Ploot - A gelatinous creature found only on Kregal. It can change its shape and can be giving specific orders. Prisoners like to use them as assassins.
  • Roc - A giant bird found on Hask. Worshipped by the Great Bird Clan on hask, a cult supported by rogue Relar who dislike the fact that Endar controls hask.

Now for a little Fauna.

  • DewMelon - A large melon used as a staple food throughout the Alliance.
  • Hanisk - A hearty strain of wheat grown on Eden. It has no natural weaknesses.
  • Blackbeads - A fruit that when left to ferment creates a strong brew called Golg.

Government:

King Rodar VI rules at this time. The alliance is ruled by a monarchy with a representative parliament. The governments power is second only to that of the Commission of Business(which is run by the same people who run the government). It has a loyal opposition due to the fact that it always does what is good for the people, which in this case is turn a profit. The government consists of a head monarch that rules the entire Alliance and then a King or Queen from each world in the Alliance, as well as 100 elected representatives from each of the worlds. Then each world has its own ruling monarchy to handle the day to day affairs of life. The Alliance government decides on what policy the Alliance should take towards other empires, as well as deciding on what social programs should be implemented. The Commission of Business handles the budget and what will be sold at the Marketplaces and who will get licenses. Any crime deemed unhuman is sentenced to immediate banishment to Kregal. There are two different kinds of legal system. Alliance Judicial and Commissionary. Each has two levels; Planetary and Trans-Alliance. Alliance Judicial handles all the crimes that break Alliance law, and Commissionary handles all the trading violations and all offences against the Commission of Business. The planetary trials are held by the ruling government of the planet and judged by their standards. Trans-Alliance trials are held in front of either the Alliance ruling classes or the Commission of Business. The monarchs are chosen by succession, with the first son or daughter gaining the throne at age 20, and the parliament is elected by the citizens in elections held every 25 years. Members of the parliament can be ousted by their constituents if they are doing a bad job and not reflecting the views of their constituency. All of the Alliance is ruled this way.

Foreign Policy:

The Alliance welcomes any and all into its borders, as long as they can pay. They a open to trade and have built a good trading base. They allow all people in on the Alliance planets but if they break the law they are subject to Alliance law, even if they are sentenced to Kregal for life.

Domestic Policy:

The Alliance is lenient with their citizens. They are allowed a lot of freedom with so few laws but if the laws are broken they are handled with extreme force. Most criminals who are deemed a hazard to society are sent to Kregal. People are taxed lightly by the Commission of Business but heavily by each other, this is one of the draw backs of the trading society. All are taught to follow a strict code of ethics in the Alliance Trading Commission schools, and so follow all rules accordingly. There are two official police forces, the Jal'nik--a specialized cast of Endari that are taught from birth how to fight and uphold the law, they are also the soldiers--, and the Cal'Enar--employed by the Commission of Business they are mercenaries from all over the galaxy, they are ruthless and uphold the Commission law--. The Jal'nik are in charge of political law and the Cal'Enar handle trading infringements.

Society:

The Alliance has two discernable societies. The Endarian culture which includes the Endari and the Relar, and the Emp society. First the Endarian culture. The Endari and Relar base their entire culture on trading throughout the galaxy. They send their children to the Alliance Trading Commission when they are only six years old. They learn to be shrewd business men and follow the Rules of Trade religiously, they never lie but always know how to manipulate the truth. An Endarian is only telling you the part of the story he wants you to hear. They have a basic family structure with each family living in a separate house. The Endari have two castes they could be born into, each looks different from the other and there is no chance of a Warrior born to a Citizen or visa versa. As I have said the two castes are Warrior and Citizen. The Warrior caste is larger than the Citizens and they have bony ridges on their forehead over their eyes and another ridge running from between the eyes all the way over the head and down their back ending in a small tail. The Citizens are about the size of humans with olive colored skin and lavender eyes that change color when they lie. They were war-like but have changed to a peaceful trading civilization. The Relar follow this basic culture but with one difference, at birth the winglets found on their backs are removed in a religious gathering.

The Emp society is much different. They prefer to live underground in the catacombs beneath cities. They a small in stature(3 feet tall) and have pointed ears. They are telepathic but cannot read minds but they can link with the minds of other Emps. In fact they have a council that always has a mind link. They started it at the moment they achieved sentience, five minds linked and created an Telepathic Entity and they kept the link going for over 2000 years by rotating the council members always leaving at least two minds in the link while the rest left and others took their places. The Entity is there God and contains all the knowledge of Emp society. Legend says that a group of rebels tried to make another Entity but it was corrupted and evil so it trapped the minds of those sustaining it and took them deep with in the earth where it now dwells.

The Emps do not like to interact with the rest of the Alliance due to the fact they had been enslaved by them for over 200 years. The Elders stay in there caves on Hanta while the young with questioning minds explore the outside world. The Emps live in community families when the community supports itself. The men will hunt and find food and jewels(Emps love sparkly things), while the women tend to the children and housework. A child in Emp society belongs to the entire community.

Languages:

Three languages are spoken, as well as the universal language. Endari is spoken everywhere it is the most prevalent language. Candarian is spoken only on Hask by the Relar. Any who have heard it call it the most beautiful and complex language they have ever heard. And Undli is spoken by the Emps, it is a mixture of sounds, grunts and empathic signals.

Religion:

There are many religions in the Alliance. There are five major religions and numerous minor religions. Religion in the Alliance is considered by the Endari to be a waste of time and energy. So religion is not a strong force. The five religions are:

  • The Church of Grace
  • The Roc Clan: Only practiced on Hask by zealots who think that the Roc is the ultimate form of evolution, and saintliness.
  • The Council: The religion practiced by all Emps, without exception. All Emps are part of this religion in one form or another. It believes that the Telepath(Telepathic Entity) will help them tran-send their earthly body so they will achieve true telepathy.
  • The Incarnation Of Wraith: This is a new religion formed on the mass hysteria that came after the return of the expedition members by the Wraiths. It believes that the Wraiths are what we will become at death.
  • Church of Aviania: This is the official Church of Hask. They believe that being a bird was only part of their destiny and they must overcome it to truly be at one with the Galaxy. This is why they remove the winglets from their young, they think if the winglets were left on they would revert to a bird state.

Castes:

The levels of society vary from race to race, and since 400as there has been no slavery in the Alliance. In the Endari race there are two castes Warrior and Citizen. The Warriors are just soldiers and can be nothing else in society, whereas the Citizens perform all other functions of society. They are the workers, scientists, and farmers of Endari society. The Relar are organized much more complexly than the Endari, they are born into one of three castes and then each cast is subdivided into different occupations and classes. The basic subdivisions are shown below.

Eagles, Doves, and Ravens are the basic castes. The Eagles are born with olive skin and blue eyes and gold winglets. They have an aptitude for being warriors, scientists, and builders. The Doves are born with white skin silver eyes and white winglets, they have a strong spiritual side that lends them to be priests, artists, and mages.

The Ravens are born with black skin black eyes and black wings. They have a strong fighting side and a strong spiritual side which allows them to become darkpriests, warriors, and mages.

Warriors are soldiers and love to fight and train, they are at peak physical condition. Builders build all the structures on Hask. The scientists work for development of technology. The mages work on the development of magic. Priests teach the scriptures of Aviania and are versed in some forms of healing magic. Artists create the wondrous works of art and explore the language of Hask. DarkPriests are just priests that can use magic as a weapon and fight for the Church. Anyone can be any class and the classes interact but certain castes lend themselves to certain classes like the Ravens and Eagles wanting to be Warriors. The Emps have a rigid class structure. Their Elders must approve of all things that go on in Emp society, the young have no say at all. They don't have any castes but they do have age requirements. When a Emp is born it is a child and remains a child with no say at all and no freedom until they reach an age deemed suitable by the Elders (which is usually 20 years old), then they are considered Youngins'. Youngins' are given some freedom as long as their activities are approved of by the Elders. A Youngin' is allowed to travel to the surface and travel off-world. The Youngins' usually leave the community for about 20 years and then return to Hanta, and apply to the Council for Eldership. The Elders are not the Council, the Council is not the Ruling class or the parliament, the Council is what keeps the Telepath alive. If the Youngin' is granted Eldership he or she sits on the Bench of Elders. The Ruling class is made up of Youngins' as is the monarchy. Only the Elders can apply to be apart of the Council and keep the Telepath alive. These are the castes of society.

Economy:

The Alliance economy is based on trading throughout the galaxy. There is no Alliance money line they just deal in credits, based on the exchange rate of money. When you enter Alliance space you can exchange all your money for credits at one of the many banks in the Alliance. You will then get an electronic credit card with all your credits on the display screen, with this card you can buy anything at any store in the Alliance and get any kind of currency at any bank in the Alliance. Everyone works all genders if they chose to, some Emps chose not to work and live stealing off other people. This is frowned upon in the Alliance. There is no slavery and the Alliance is proud of this fact. The wealth is distributed to anyone who works for it and since the Endari and Relar are both inherently greedy everyone works for it.

Military:

The Alliance does not want to appear hostile so there are very few patrolled borders but since it is trading in everything they can get their hands on any kind of weapon so it is suspected that the Alliance has a well developed military force. Approx. 30% of the population is involved in the military directly, and everyone has have some dealings with the military at some time in their life. The military has a patrol branch(which patrols borders), customs branch (which keeps unauthorized trading), a research division(researches weapons), and a magic division(develops magic and using magic in battle). The armed forces is jointly controlled by the Ruling class and the Commission of Business. The military uses the most advanced weapons and magic as well as ships with TFP's older that 75 years. The most common ship is a Draven Class Destroyer. It has trans-galaxy drives, different quantum drives, atmospheric drives and laser cannon capabilities of over 20 megatons.

Sports and Leisure:

Depending on the port the leisure activities can be quite vulgar. But most traders (Endari and Emps) like to go to the tavern and drink Golg with other traders and exchange stories or play a few rounds of bones, or poker. Bones is a game like dominos except played for money. They also like to gamble. The Relar are more aristocratic, they like to watch theatrical drama, as well as listening to music which is most complex because the entire Relar language is based on music, and observing art, which like the music is delicate and complex. Every year the Alliance has First Quarter Festival which celebrates the first quarter of business in the year. It is a day of celebration by all races the Marketplace shops are all closed and everyone enjoys the festivities. Each planet has its own respective solace and equinox festivals but First Quarter is the only Alliance wide festival. Art is only shown in great quantities in art stores and on Hask. The Endari view leisure as they do business. How can they better themselves and cheat the opponent.

Major Population Centers:

Enda - Location:Endar, Endar system. This is the most important port in the entire Alliance. It holds all the inventories and rosters of all ships in the Alliance.

Illiac - Location:New Asgard, Endar system. This is the only port on the mining plant of New Asgard.

Paradise - Location:Cal'shiar, Endar System. The largest resort on the pleasure planet Cal'shiar. Please come and see the dual moonrise on the summer equinox.

Rolan - Location:Ordeth, Endar system. The main temple of the Incarnation of Wraith is here on Ordeth.

Olden - Location:Eden, Kaymolsk system. The major Marketplace on the farming world of Eden. Has every kind of food imaginable.

HighHold - Location:Hask, Kaymolsk system. This is the main city of the Relar. All there main temples are built there. It is a minor spaceport.

Jalx - Location:Kregal, Danol system. This is the largest penal dome on Kregal, over 200 thousand prisoners live there.

Hinlan - Location:Kregal, Danol system. The largest mine on Kregal.

Ruarc - Location:G'Toth, Danol system. This is the largest ruin left by the natives on G'Toth, it is greatly explored and excavated by archaeologists.

Y'Polac - Location:Hanta, Danol system. This is the main city where the Council is kept and where the Telepath lives. It is over 750 meters underground.

Joni - Location:Hanta, Danol system. This is the only spaceport on Hanta, all those going to and leaving Hanta must come here.

Chronic Problems:

The Alliance has a few problems in its systems. One is the Emps, they are always stealing and making a nuisance of themselves. The Emps are a bothersome race that has many times almost been banished from the Alliance. Another problem is the lax immigration policies. Almost anyone can be smuggled passed the border and then given a citizenship in the Alliance. Already criminals and people hiding from mobs and other organized crime abound inside the Alliance. And the last major problem is the Relar zealots. The preach to the citizens of Relar to join the ever growing Roc Clan, which wants to rebel against the Alliance. They are growing is support and will soon have to be dealt with.
