AENDORIAN SPACE
(Also Aendorian Empire)

Overview:

Aendorian Space is a trio of systems colonized by immediate survivors of the Kendis Empire dissolution. Most of their technology has been lost to them, though they have grown into a society revolving around the use of Magical Totems. The society even submits rulership of the Empire to a semi-sentient Totem named Kaluvan.

Q-dex:

Aendorian Space has remained in the same Quantum Zone since it was colonized by surviving humanoids of the Kendis Empire dissolution thousands of years ago. This area of space operates in the energy sphere, where matter is made up of "knots" in one-dimensional energy super-strings. This physical zone is highly unstable, and the superstrings vibrate at different rates. This produces an afterimage when people or things move about in Aendorian Space. This effect has been known to occur in some small effect in Aendorians outside their space, making their features blurred and difficult to characterize unless they sit perfectly still or asleep. Aendorians have learned to harvest lumber, and carve the wood in ways that force the phases of superstring vibration to align in the fiber of the wood. This is done to create totems of vast energetic power and sometimes sentience.

Technology:

Aendorians are also experts in the control of AC electricity, although electronics are sadly incapable of working. The afterimaging of electrons makes electronic switching impossible. However, random afterimaging seems to enhance the power of AC electricity. Aendorian Space has an industrial economy, but technology is incapable of making the leap into an information age. They are maxed out at what would be early twentieth century Earth technology.

Magic:

Totems are created and used in the place of technology in a wide range of activities. This includes law enforcement, space travel, atmospheric control/prediction, communication, and transportation. The role of magic in the social structure cannot be underestimated - it is the upper class that carves the totems used throughout the society.

Size:

The Aendorian Space is made up of 3 star systems, each having one inhabitable planet (Aendorians are not terraformers). The largest planet is Aenisse, and the other two are smaller colonies called Ehnorr and Rhaneve.

Population:

The population of Aendorian Space is nearly all located on the central planet of Aenisse.

Climate and Geography:

Aenisse is over 90% water, with almost all citizens living in vast floating cities. These floating cities are easy to maintain as ships, as the quantum instabilities make the water very heavy. Almost all land is used to harvest Silt trees, so-called because dirt clings to them as they grow, and must be scraped off when they are harvested. Wild animals live upon the land, and are never mixed with livestock living in the floating cities. Food is harvest from sea farms, fishing (electricity a major fishing tool), and livestock. The head of government exists in a temple at the top of an underwater mountain range, 100 feet below the surface of the ocean. There is one major floating city that simply drives in large circles around the temple of Kaluvan, which serves as the spaceport for foreign travels.

Flora and Fauna:

Trees and fish. Mostly fish.

History:

The history of the people of Aendorian Space is still being slowly collected, bit by bit, from magnetic memories recovered from the first colonists' ships.

Government:

Aendorian Space was ruled by a religious council until 46 years ago. At that time, in an effort to get rid of partisanship, a vast project was undertaken to create a totem of wisdom. The result of this project is Kaluvan, a 90 foot totem carved from the trunk of the largest tree that could be found. The impossibly intricate totem now makes all government decisions, and has not been overloaded with information since his creation. It is still debated whether or not Kaluvan has an ego, and can therefore become impartial himself. Kaluvan is attended by the priest class, who Kaluvan advises is the only class allowed to carve new totems.

Foreign Policy:

The people of Aendorian Space are currently in a hotly contested political battle over whether or not to explore space, and maintain contact with other civilizations. Only a few are actually zealously xenophobic, but the anti-progress movement is doing well overall.

Domestic Policy:

Foreign trade consists of the exportation of Aendorian wood, which is cured with totemic rituals so that the matter vibration stops completely in phase once it leaves Aendorian space. This makes it the hardest organic substance known in this area - even suitable for space ship building. In return, Aendorians mostly seek art, conductive materials, good carving metals, and luxuries. Domestically, Aendorians have a strong moral order, enforced within tribal family relations. The lower classes fear the totem-bearing priestly class and Kaluvan, but all have the opportunity to join the priest class. Kaluvan himself chooses who is to be inducted as a totem priest, seemingly at random. All of his choices turn out to have remarkable carving skills, however.

Society:

Aendorian Society is tribal, and somewhat nomadic. Not only do the floating cities wander around the oceans, families often jump from city to city when cities intersect for trade. Because most citizens are more interested in their tribe than the Space, very little political partisanship takes place. The largest division exists between those for and those against space exploration.

Languages:

Aendorians speak their native Aendorian, and most speak at least a little of the RitualSpeak.

Religion:

Religiously, Kaluvan has united the three planets of Aendorian Space. The non-educated worship family totems, and Kaluvan as the greatest of the totems. The educated who understand the truth behind totem energies are in awe of the scope of project their predescessors undertook in making Kaluvan. It is almost a religious belief among the educated that Kaluvan cannot be replicated by all the talent in the universe.

Castes:

No information at this time.

Economy:

Dense seawater means that Aendorians have trouble going farther than 100 feet underwater. The basis of the economy is the phosphorescent shell of a mollusk fished from depths of 1000 feet underwater. This is rarely circulated (just as Earth rarely circulates gold), so paper money is used. Other major economic trades include sea farming, fishing, art trade, livestock. Art trade and display is the key leisure activity/hobby for Aendorians, who are constantly starved for foreign art. Few competitive sports or "mass appeal" activities occur in Aendorian Space.

Military:

The military is made up of transatmospheric fighter and troop carrying ships that land on water. The military is mostly defensive, focusing on electrical repulsion and dense armor. Weapons are primarily magnetically fired hyperdense metallic creations, whose afterimages at high speed make for mass-intensive impacts. Atmospheric propulsion is mostly mechanical (piston or low RPM turbine), while space propulsion is created using repellent and attractant Totems, which are arranged in navigation rooms to maximize propulsive power. Special totems are made for space travel, which tightly focus phased energy strings. Order in the Aendorian Space is kept by the holder of "truth totems." These police dole out justice on the basis of a type of totem that can tell if one is lying. There is a lot of controversy about this method, however, as the totem is not perfectly accurate. Any small imperfection in the carving can make the truth totem inaccurate in some truth readings.

Starships:

No information available at this time.

Weapons:

No information available at this time.

Sports and Leisure:

Art trade and display is the key leisure activity/hobby for Aendorians, who are constantly starved for foreign art. Few competitive sports or "mass appeal" activities occur in Aendorian Space.

Major Population Centers:

Several hundred floating cities. The most familiar is the Spaceport Ane.

Chronic Problems:

The Aendorians are in a period of sloth, unable or unwilling to create their own works of beauty or art. Kaluvan was not created to heal the spiritual problems of the people, and has not addressed these "invisible problems" that threaten the souls of Aendorians. We are open and desperate for trade with your Empire!
